Hello I have a nice, really nice Rowenta steam iron, but the tip is just to big for pressing seam allowances open without my finger having to go in front of it all the time. Is there any iron that has some weight to it and also has a nice narrow tip for opening seams? Also my ironing board is just not stiff enough for pressing the seams. Is there a specific "pressing" board that is stiffer than an regular ironing board specifically for seaming?

I use a cheap Black and decker iron from walmart...I hate heavy irons...and I use June Taylor pressing matt that I just bought at Joann's...nice and stiff well padded...

Had the same problem a few weeks ago, purchased a Rowenta travel iron through Amazon. Love it, small, gets very hot and has a fine point for getting into small areas. A few years ago a friend made me one of those fancy boards you see at quilt shows. It is made from light lumber, and padded. It is rectangular to fit over your ironing board...expecially good for ironing large pieces. I recently found it it fits perfectly over an odd-sized table (longer than a card table but smaller than the banquet size) I had gotten at Costco. The board fits perfectly over the table and gives me lots of surface area for working. I use a vintage Singer machine...so everything fits. I keep my supplies I am using at the time in a frisbee saucer dish....one dollar from Walmart. My area is compact but very efficient for me.

I bought a cheap ($2.99) at the community thrift store which is small but not as small as a travel iron. It stays hot and doesn't cool down which I like. I have 3 other irons but they are too big and cool down about every 8 minutes of not using them...
