ISO Star Log Cabin pattern by Carol Savage

Hi--in a terrific Craftsy class on Log Cabin Quilts, Nancy Smith shows a striking "Star Log Cabin" quilt (SLCQ) made by Carol Savage. The stars in Carol's quilt are constructed in the lattice strips between blocks--or possibly the last strips in the block--similar to Eleanor Burn's Star Log Cabin quilt (featured in her 1995 book by the same name). This is not the SLCQ variation in which the blocks themselves are arranged to form a large star.

Where these two quilt patterns differ is that Carol's stars appear to be made from diamonds (lemoyne star configuration) whereas Eleanor's stars are constructed with HSTs around a center square (Ohio star configuration).

I haven't yet waded through all 2000+ posts on LCQs on the Message Board ;->), although I have made a dent and will continue doing so, but for now I have come up empty and I am running out of time for a LCQ project with an immediate deadline. Is anyone familiar with this beautiful variation on the classic LCQ? Many thanks and HNY.

Judy Martin also has this type of pattern in several of her books:

Thanks for the referral. These LCQs are seductive, aren't they.

I am beginning to believe there is no pattern for the Carol variation of Eleanor Burns Star LCQ. I am just going to wing it, but I have abandoned the star motif (because I don't have time to make and partially applique 94 diamond stars) in favor of appliqued (simple triangular-shaped) trees in the corner stones of the sashing. Gonna call it Cabin in the Woods ;->)
