I have convertd one more friend into a quilting addict!! She began the whole process scared to death of a sewing machine. She was completely intimidated by a bolt of fabric - this is NO joke... I gave her some fabric from my stash for her first project because she was so nervous to go to the store! When she wanted to go and purchase 24 fat quarters for a Turning Twenty we had to go to two different stores, use some more of my stash and she STILL hasn't touched them (that was two or three years ago!). HOWEVER, in January we both 'resolved' to finish projects. Her first ever table runner was completed on Tuesday!! She did alot of the piecing by hand, but switched to the machine I finally talked her into buying (cheapy, but do-able!). She called me on Wednesday and wanted to go RIGHT THEN to JoAnns because she was so excited to begin the next project!! ;) We went yesterday - she chose ALL of her own fabric and actually bought some fat quarters to 'begin her own stash'!!! Yep - I think she's on her way!!! :)

Good for you, and her! Add another quilter to the list.

Stitch Lover 06-26-2010 05:52 AM

Good for you!!!! This will be a friend who will be forever grateful to you for starting her stash of fabric! We all know that instant urge to go right now to our local fabric store and if that isn't feasible we shop on Internet! Maybe she will post some of her projects to keep all of us inspired.

The first step is always the hardest. It is great that your friend had you beside her during this decision making time. Maybe she will join this group.

I started quilting in 1992 but did not do hand quilting until about 2003. I thought about it for years while tied them all. Then I just said to myself to jump in.

amma 06-26-2010 05:59 AM

Woo Hoo!!! You two will have a lot of fun quilting together now :D:D:D

luv-e 06-26-2010 06:01 AM

Ahhhh, the birth of a quilter, what a beautiful site!!! I'm so proud of you for being patient with her, some people are just slow to accept the inevitable. She is going to have a Blast at her first quilt show!!!! Have fun with your new (even though not a new friend) quilt buddy.

Thats wonderful! Maybe well see her here!

justwannaquilt 06-26-2010 12:01 PM

Thats awesome. I try turning people onto sewing because I know how much I enjoy it and I know how relaxing it is. One of my good friends started sewing after hanging out at my house when both of our husbands were deployed. Now that my husband is out of the Army (medically retired) and her husband is once again deplyed I hope she pulls the machine out now that I am gone and remembers those long nights sitting and talking about nothing while the machine punched out stitches.

I still hate buying fabric because I can not match or cordinate fabrics to save my life. One would think I was color blind, and prints scare me! lol

littlehud 06-26-2010 04:46 PM

Great job. Another quilting joining the group.

Doreen 06-28-2010 06:48 AM

Now all she needs are some useful gadgets! Love to see a newbie enjoy quilting!

Charleen DiSante 06-28-2010 09:49 AM

That's fantastic that you have snagged another one!!! (yeah, pun intended on that one too) Recently I had the opportunity to help a young friend with getting a $10. garage sale machine going. When I saw that it ws an old Singer Dressmaker machine I was jealous but had to let go of that and just be happy someone else is sewing.

Lucille A 06-28-2010 09:56 AM

good job!!!! it is such joy to share our quilting with friends.

Lucille

Good for you, It is always wonderful to see a new artist on the rise. God bless. Penny

Annya 06-28-2010 04:20 PM

That is great that your friend is now ONE OF US QUILTERS don't forget to get into some of those bus trips to fabric shops that are out of your immediate area so she can find other fabric to add to her stash as well as the trips to the quilt shows. They will help your friend get ideas for other quilts she may want to make ONE DAY. Have fun together as you show her new techniques as her knowledge grows into full fledged quilter.

Quilter2B 06-28-2010 07:02 PM
