good luck. |
Do wash it again with color catcher sheets. It may clean up. This has worked for me. Good luck.

According to the directions, Synthrapol is for HAND dyed fabric. Retayne is for commercially dyed fabric.

oh noooo.....
I've played the no-wash game for quite awhile. Just takes ONE incident and you move to the always-wash game....just stinks that that one time ruins a quilt. Still know some people who refuse to wash prior to cutting....sigh. |
Ouch, im so sorry . I always prewash, 1. because that is the way I was taught and 2. im afraid what just happend to you will happen to me. I hope someone will be able to give you an idea on how to salvage this quilt.
|
So sorry, I have had that happen to.

Try soaking in Oxyclean overnight.

I AM SO SORRY. You have my condolences. I usually prewash, but occasionally one gets away from me. I once washed a cross-stitch I had done and the red embroidery floss. That had never happened to me before, and I have made a lot of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, so I would hate for that to happen again. Someone did suggest that I pre-wash the embroidery floss - a bit of a stretch, but I would hate to have the doll's face run. It could have been old floss too. The suggestions made sound good - so good luck.

So sorry! I'm used to prewashing everything because I garment sew as well.
|
So sorry that happened.

prewashing has it's pros and cons. Anytime I have a wide variety of color values, I always prewash. However, if I just get a new collection, and it's close in bright colors, I just wash the finished product with a color catcher. All of my stash is prewashed. I don't mixed prewashed fabric with unwashed fabric in a project.

I have just washed and now have it inthe dryer a quilt that had some red run into it and it has been washed and dryed several times since then. Decided to take my own advice and wash it in Awesome. I soaked it a full day then washed it and the stain is out. GREAT DAY IN THE MORNING.!!!! really didn't expect it after this long a time and so many washings.

I have never heard of Awesome, where can I get it. I tried using the rit color remover yesterday and the quilt looks better, but still the beige is tinged.
|
We have Dollar General, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree discount stores here thats where I get mine but I think Wal-Mart has it too. Its just a cleaner like Mr. Clean, etc. thats just came out in thw last couple of months. Its great for any cleaning. I cleaned inside of my car, my carpet, and use it in the dishwater(.don't have a dishwasher) when I have greasy dishes.
You might can find Awesome at a home center Like Home Depot or Lowe's. Hope you can find it. |
I would wash it again with several color catchers again. The one I use is kind of a terrycloth and it seems to work well. I usually don't wash.
|
try
www.lastotallyawesome.com maybe they willbe able to tell you where to find it. I checked and Wal-Mart doesn't have it. but try Home Depot or Lowe's some home improvement store. I haven't checked them yet because a Family Dollar is just 3 blocks from my house. That stuff really works. Hope you can find it and that it works for you. |
Oh I have been there too... so I really understand how you feel. In my case the fabrics were pre-washed!!!
Make sure you use a color catcher when pre-washing too :) |
So Sad. Try washing again with color catchers and maybe it will reduce the bleeding.
