I just went and purchased a pair of spring scissors because my hand was killing me and getting blisters from using my normal scissors to cut up my rag quilt. So I got maybe three whole rows done and now they don't cut threw the fabric anymore. They went from cutting like a hot knife threw butter to trying to cut a loaf of bread with a butter knife. Guess I'll be bring them back to Walmart as they didn't last as long as they should. Just thought I'd share.

I haven't had any problems with mine. Thankfully if I do, I have extras from the clearance sale at Michaels last summer

AWE THAT STINKS!!! Sorry to hear that..

That is sad. I haven't tried a rag quilt yet, but I swear by my spring scissors. I ruined my first pair by accidently cutting into a pin. I had them sharpened professionally, but they aren;t the same anymore. There's a roughness in using them. I ended up buying another pair and the first pair gets used for other crafts. Good luck on finding a good quality pair. I'd be interested to know what others say about this thread.

really? what brand were they? i got Fiscars and they work great.

Take them back and order these: they are the best rag quilt scissors made. I would not attempt to cut a rag quilt without them.
I paid a lot more for mine not on sale and have never regretted it.

I cut a rag quilt with a pair of scissors from JoAnn's, they were $30 but well worth it!

The plastic Fiskar spring scissors will not hold up to cut rag quilts. I've seen too many pairs at quilt workshops just not cut at all after cutting a lot of strips. Using the best tools will make a world of difference in quilting efforts.

Lol went back to walmart and bought a pair of these scissors and guess what I killed them too. I managed to get all the cutting done one way and then tried to do the rows going the other way when they died. I will definately be investing in a pair of those special rag quilt scissors. Maybe Santa will bring me some for Christmas hehe.
