We have an old Singer to sell on Ebay and here we will be lucky if we can get £20 for it. Nobody wants them!! (Including me)

I found a FW on Craigslist and the seller wanted $500! Said it had a rare foot pedal. When she sent a picture of the pedal it looked like an OLD pedal, and perhaps it was rare, but it looked scary to me. Machine looked great though. I passed on it. Would love to have another, but not for that price.

For all who are coveting a featherweight--I just saw one on eBay, bidding ends today, 8/19, at 15:37:19 PDT; was 143.50 + 23.26 shipping a few minutes ago. It includes case. (Having already bought a totally refurbished but "naked" one from this Board, I was just looking for a case of some kind, or I would have bid on it.)

A while back on this board there was member who had bought a FW and the case was stripped of the black fabric and the wood box was really nice and clean. You could do that and the smell should be gone. By the time you clean up the wood and maybe finish off with a top coat.

I'm thinking there or the vintage sewing machine shop might have info on getting the old glue/musty smell out of the case. Try setting it in the sun - dryer sheets - there are other ideas out there - there is a FW user group on here too.

oh my goodness...just what I need another group :|

To get rid of the odor, get some odor eaters (for shoes) and put in the bottom of the case. You can also use fabric softner sheets but the odor eaters work best. Congradulations, you will love the feather weight. They were made for the user to be able to service them themselves and they are so sturdy. They sew the straightest and are so great for taking with you to whatever.

What is your old machine?
