jacks---not quite finished

This has been the most challenging quilt that I've attempted, but I've only done a couple dozen. This will be for my 8 year old GD when its complete, if that ever happens!! Its been tough! There are 16 6" pieces that make up each 24" Jack block. Each 6" piece has 2 corners out & pieces put back in....and boy oh boy, that was so hard. This pattern is from fons & porter mag. I'm not sure what color to do the back in...maybe orange because the jack balls are orange? Any suggestions? Thanks for looking. I've never posted from cell, I hope pic comes over!

Wow what a great quilt. It will be worth all the challenge it has presented once it is done and your DGD is sure to love it. Please make sure you post photos of the finished quilt.

Neat and clever!

bepositive 12-25-2014 06:13 PM

OOOOOHHHHHHH!!!! I LOVE it! It's so fun and cheerful! :) :) It DOES look tricky, but the finished product will surely be worth it!! :) :)

tessagin 12-25-2014 06:36 PM

It's going to be so cute when finished. Either the orange balls color or one of the bold colors. What is her favorite color?

lynnie 12-25-2014 06:45 PM

such a challenging quilt. I love it. your granddaughter will look at this quilt and trace the shapes and wonder how you did it this is an inspirational type of quilt that might just give her the bug to try it too. keep it up and finish it. it's worth it.

Very cute blocks! The orange back would be nice.

Leslie333 12-25-2014 07:06 PM

Very nicely done! Those seams look challenging to match and you've done it well!

Dina 12-25-2014 08:03 PM

What a great quilt!! I think about any color would work for the back....so go with whatever you want. You can't go wrong. You have one lucky granddaughter!!

I love this pattern, but I know how those curved seams can be. It's a great quilt! I would put a multi colored print on the back if it was mine.

Doggramma 12-25-2014 08:42 PM

What a neat quilt - I'm not sure I could get all those rounded pieces to line up right! Yours looks great.

grammyjladr 12-26-2014 03:16 AM

I am impressed! That is inspirational!

DebraK 12-26-2014 05:19 AM

impressive! It will be a wonderful gift.

GingerK 12-26-2014 06:01 AM

I love this pattern. Yes, it certainly looks challenging but wow! You are doing a fantastic job.

I agree with sewmom.

That's a great quilt!! You did a fantastic job, too, just look how all those curved seams line up! I tried sewing some Drunkard's Path blocks recently and turns out I'm horrible at curved seams, LOL.

Very, very cool - your GD will love it!

DogHouseMom 12-26-2014 07:07 AM

Lovely quilt! The colors you selected really compliment the pattern. Can't wait to see it finished.

Jordan 12-26-2014 07:29 AM

That is a great quilt and I am sure your DGD will love it but it does look challenging. You are doing a fantastic job on it. The backing would be cute in some colorful fabric--maybe picking some fabric with all of the colors from the front.
Please share with us when it is finished. Keep up the great work.

MagaQuilt 12-26-2014 10:40 AM

Fantastic quilt - love the idea of an orange back but depend on GD. Purple could be another option.

noahscats7 12-26-2014 12:05 PM

That is really cute.

paoberle 12-27-2014 04:13 AM

I would use a print on the back and a geometric print or stripe for the binding. I love for the back to be a surprise, especially on kids quilts.

Geri B 12-27-2014 04:14 AM

Good job.......it's a GD...pink, of course!

lindaschipper 12-27-2014 04:18 AM

Understandable why this was such a challenge for you....but it's adorable and any little girl would love it!! Great job.

AnnT 12-27-2014 04:25 AM

Challenging for sure. But it's looking good!

quiltingshorttimer 12-27-2014 06:42 AM

you did a fantastic job! So impressed with all your curved seams (not my favorite to make). But I would audition a color on the back before you purchase the fabric. with that much white I'm thinking you'll want white bat and you don't want the backing to show through the top. also, think about the color of thread for the quilting--again, if you plan to use mainly white, you might want the back to be white depending on your quilting skills or whether you plan to take to long armer.

carolynjo 12-27-2014 06:46 AM

I think you are doing a great job! doubt I could do as well.

joyce888 12-27-2014 06:50 AM

Great job, in sure whatever color you choose will work.

Caswews 12-27-2014 06:51 AM

Very pretty ..

AZ Jane 12-27-2014 08:15 AM

Polka dots!!!!!

fivepaws 12-27-2014 09:43 AM

I love it but it sure looks labor intensive.

roserips 12-27-2014 10:25 AM

What a fun and clever quilt! I would be inclined to finish the balls on the edges but as for backing I have never worried to much about that since it is the back. You could use a frozen fabric which seams to be all the rage right now or any other fun print. Just make sure it isn't to dark and shows through the batting. I used to love to play jacks and love your quilt.

matraina 12-27-2014 10:39 AM

Wow, that was quite a project but your granddaughter will love it.

MargeD 12-27-2014 12:00 PM

It's a beautiful quilt and she will love it. You will be proud of yourself when it's done, especially with hugs and kisses from her that you made her this special quilt.

Taughtby Grandma 12-27-2014 12:23 PM

I really like it. The back could be orange or maybe her favorite color if you know it.

Monika 12-27-2014 04:43 PM

Great quilt!!!

JuneBillie 12-27-2014 05:58 PM

I like the idea of orange for the back, because that will tell it's story of the orange ball. I love things that tell a story.

maryellen2u 12-27-2014 07:12 PM

Gosh that is just a great quilt! I love it and I am sure she will too. I wonder if there is a ball and jacks print fabric. Good work Grandma!

ccthomas 12-27-2014 07:51 PM

Nice Jacks quilt.

ckcowl 12-28-2014 05:05 AM

It is so cute! I would go with a colorful print on the back, something with the orange that matches the balls, or includes the jacks colors. What is gd's favorite color? Could go with that.

jmoore 12-28-2014 06:05 AM

super cute but I can see why it would be challenging. You should be proud that you added a new level to your quilting and it looks great.
