There was a wonderful pattern a couple of weeks ago called Jacob's coat. I was able to download the instructions but there was no pattern for the eliptical pattern piece. Does anyone have it?

snipforfun 07-31-2011 11:20 AM

Are you sure it wasnt Josephs coat?

Peckish 07-31-2011 11:26 AM

Hmm not sure what you mean... I found several Jacobs and Josephs on Quilterscache.com, but none of them have an "elliptical" piece... hers must be different blocks than yours?

snipforfun 07-31-2011 11:34 AM

Josephs coat quilt is the same as the pumpkin seed quilt. Google either one and you will see they have the eliptical shape. I just finishefthe pumpkin seed quilt.

WHERE DID YOU GET PATTERN FOR PUMPKIN SEED QUILT?

tmg 07-31-2011 12:36 PM

I have the pattern. If you want I can copy it and put it in the mail.

Josephs coat?

I have Leisure Arts "Encyclopedia of Classic Quilt Patterns" and Josephs coat is in there with pattern pieces, there is the elliptic piece and the triangle with inward curves. :D

veranugent 07-31-2011 07:17 PM

It was Jacob's coat by Kelly Jackson.

??? it worked for me....

There are 2 ways you can make the Jacob's coat pattern. You can piece it or you can applique it. I googled "jacob's coat kelly jackson" and found pdf instructions. I've also seen a very good quilt-along here: http://dontlooknow.typepad.com/dont_...lt-along-.html (However, she is calling it "Joseph's coat").
I've seen tutorials and free templates around the web, they're not hard to find. Inklingo has a joseph's coat pattern, also.

THanks for all the links, everyone. Checked them all and they all work. Will save for a possible future reference? Too many quilts to do:)

I followed the dontlooknow site for awhile. She instructs you on how to make the pieces yourself! More than I wanted to do although it is a very pretty quilt.

One thing I enjoy about this site, is that googling to find answers brings up so many techniques and patterns. Here is one pattern of the template, though getting it to the precise size might be difficult. http://blog.petitdesignco.com/2010/0...late-help.html
I believe the Jacob's Coat is indeed the old Joseph's Coat pattern, one of the many blocks with Biblical background. It is not the pumpkin seed block, which has fewer sides. Nor is it Robbing Peter... Also I found at least one one other Joseph's Coat with a completely different look.

Would love to see your quilt when you finish.

crazyrvquilter 08-01-2011 06:07 AM

I just started piecing Joseph's Coat using Inklingo. If you haven't heard of Inklingo, check it out at Inklingo.com.
I would post a picture of what I have pieced, but I don't know how to post a picture here.

If you go to Inklingo.com and search Joseph's Coat you will see that pattern. Inklingo is a method of printing the pattern shapes on your printer, cut on the cutting lines and sew on the stitching lines. I have no affiliation but have used this innovative process and have found they are very precise.

Peckish 08-01-2011 07:48 AM

I posted the Inklingo link above...

To me, this one looks like the Cathedral Window with reversed colors. The light color is in the middle and the darker patterns are the frames.
Or is it just me seeing that?

mshawii 08-01-2011 01:35 PM

Is it the one with six pedals like a flower? Jan

The Quiet Quilter 08-01-2011 03:42 PM

That would be a good one.
I've never worked with curves
though. Kind of scarey to me.
Hugs, Sharon

Please remember that it is a copyright infringement to make a copy of a pattern to give or sell to someone else.

COOL! it looks like the Kelly Jackson Jacobs Coat is the SAME as the traditional pattern Josephs Coat :D except appliqued instead of pieced :D

you should be able to print the pattern pieces for Josephs Coat about a dozen different sites all free. then choose to piece or applique :D :D :D

!!!HAVE FUN!!!

I have no doubt that that is a very very old pattern from the 30's or older. While it may be made in new fabric and some one renamed it, it isn't a new pattern. Jan

jamie Watson 08-02-2011 10:28 AM

I would like to have a copy of the pumpkin seed quilt.Let me know how much you want for a copy and the amount for postage
PM me and I will send the address

crazyrvquilter 08-03-2011 06:44 PM

You really should check out the Inklingo method. I am making this quilt right now and it is so easy. I am piecing by hand but machine piecing would be just as easy. No appliquing.
