Hi there. This is my first time checking in here and I come with questions.
I want a machine that will allow me to do some simple embroidery, large enough to machine quilt (stitch in the ditch, stippling, free motion) and regular sewing. Is there such a machine?
The Janome machines seem to be solid machines. The local dealer has shown me several models. I like how they work.
The Janome 10000 would seem to fit my wants, but I would like to hear from someone that personally uses one.
Oh yes, what is the throat size? I've heard this area called many names, but can't think of the others right now. I'm talking about the sewing area from needle to the side of machine.

If you have one of these machines, please share your opinions. Also, I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say about the Janome 9000.

I have the Janome 4800. It's the best machine I've ever owned. If ever I buy another machine it will be a Janome also!

Hi, I have the Janome 9000 and have had it for 10 yrs. Also have the Janome 10001, but the latest machine by janome (I think) is the 11000, You can not go wrong with a Janome . I don't use the 9000 as much any more because I have the newer one. I also have the Janome 3500 which is smaller to take to classes etc. It does not do the embroidery. With my 10001 I can download patterns off the internet to embroidery. And it does many things. I love them all. However I understand the Janome 6600 is great for quilting because it has a larger area in the throat to put a quilt thru. I do quilt on my 10001 but not anything bigger than a lap size. the 6600 does not embroider. So your best bet is to go to a qualified and trusty dealer an check them out to see what suits you best. I have the Memory Craft 6600P and tho it isn't an embroidery machine I can tell you that it's a wonderful quilting friend. I've worked on projects for up to 8 hours straight without a single problem. I wouldn't part with my Janome for anything! So tho I can't offer advice about embroidery, I know you've made a great choice in brand names.

Have you checked out Janome's website? You can do a side-by-side comparison of models and features there. Most of the larger machines for quilting and embroidery have at least a 9" throat, but you can find the measurements there. The larger, the better!

I bought the H.Viking Saphire 830 for eleven hundred. It is not the embroidery 850 model. It has a 10 inch throat and I love this feature. You can shove a quilt thru so much easier. It has a stich fixing feature for start and stopping. Needle up or down. Alphabet and many different stiches. So far I have only used the alpha to write my name with some flowers and leaves. You can wind a bobbin from the needle which is great. I did have to buy an edging foot instead of the 1/4 inch foot because the feed dogs are wider that other machines. It works the same way except I have to adjust the needle to the right to get 1/4 inch. It has many features that I learned in the free class but quickly forgot. Some day I hope to get an embroidery mach. but for now this is working out fine.

Welcome to quilting! I have been at it for a year and just bought a Janome. I had a demo at the Road to California of the new 11000 model but it was overwhelming for me. Too many bells and whistles. So I bought a Janome 760 Jem Platinum. It has 60 nice stitch patterns to do great embellishments. It is only 12 lbs. so you can take it anywhere. I just put together a queen size quilt top with no problem. I love it! And the cost is a fraction of all the others listed here. Good luck!

I have the Janome Memory 6600 and I LOVE IT! The machine takes a licking and keeps on sewing. I have taken it with me wherever I go and it has never failed me. I just recently purchased the 760 and love it! I also have the 5 over serger which I love. So as you can tell, I am a Janome fan. By the way, my first quilt was made on a small $178.00 Janome with no problems! My second one was King size and was made on the 6600. You can't go wrong with a Janome in my book. Good luck! I have the Janome 10000 upgraded to 10001.....Love It! I also have the Janome Compulock serger. Both are the best sewing machines I have ever owned. I sew, quilt, and embroider.

I have the Janome Memory Craft 6000. It will be 26 years old this year. I do not quilt my own quilts but I have sewn my children's clothes, my own clothes and now 5 quilt tops. I would definetly look at another Janome if I needed one for quilting my own quilts!!

I too am a huge Janome fan. I have been sewing on the MC7000 for years and have never had any problems with it. I just bought myself the 10001 (the 10000 with upgraded software) in December. So far I love it, it is very intuitive and I have found it quite simple to use.

I did notice that the throat is a tad smaller than my 7000, so I probably won't be quilting a lot of large quilts on it, but may try some smaller ones. I am keeping my 7000 for regular sewing and quilting, but someday hope to get a machine with a much larger throat, maybe the 11000.

Thanks for the welcome and all your opinions. It's great to research these things, but it's very helpful for me to hear what others have to say that have actually used the machine in their home.
I'm still undecided. It's not in the budget to buy a new machine so I've been looking at used. I'm not too worried as we have a great repairman in town and he's certified to work on Janome machines. He just doesn't have any used machines that I want right now. Of course he could sell me one of the sparkling new machines he has in the shop .
I'm calling about a 9000 today. Although I would love to be sewing on one right now, I have time to wait. Patience doesn't come easy though.

prairie girl, i have the janome 6600P sewing machine and it has a 9" throat and i am absolutely in love with it. I also have the janome 350E embroidery machine, I prefer having these two machines over the ones that sew and embroidery both because lots of times i will have a design under the needle on the embroidery machine and piecing a quilt at the same time on the sewing machine. here's a picture of a peacock that i made on the 350E last night. you sure can't go wrong with any janome machine, i love them both.

dojo, that peacock is very impressive. I'm always amazed at what talented creative folks can do on machines.

I'm still looking at machines. I've researched the Janome 6260 and read about the Kenmore 19606 today. It looks good too. I have a Kenmore now that has been good to me.

My sister-in-law sells these machines. She has two and two of my sisters bought one a piece. I just have Janome envy. She also has a tin lizzie she loves.

i still have a kenmore sewing machine that was born in 1970 and it still sews great. but i still love my new janomes. i did the peacock in colors instead of all one color, did it on a black jacket and affixed crystals, here's a pic of it.

so far, the Janome MC11000 is the only combination sewing/embroidery machine with a 9" throat. it also uses the largest hoop i could find, although i think you have to purchase that one separately.

if you want to be able to both embroider and machine quilt on the same machine, this seems to be the one best suited. if you can afford it. which i can't. :cry: :lol: :cry:
