Janome 6500P owners, I have a question.
 

Decided to purchase a new machine. 2 things that was on the top of my list was having more arm space to free motion quilt, at a reasonable price, and it had to have, I think it is called a serpentine stitch. Checked out on line what was available and felt the Janome 6500P was the one. I went to a fairly local dealer and they didn't mention this machine kept trying to push a couple $4000.00 ones, which was more than I wanted to spent. Anyways, after stewing about buying one on line for weeks, I went ahead and ordered one. Set it all up and preceded to check out the one main reason for buying this machine the STITCH that I so wanted. Mode 2, stitch 25 is the one. Than I discovered it will only let you go up to a
2.5 stitch length. Instead of a long easy curve line, it is more like a zigzag with rounded corners. I am so
disappointed. I discovered this stitch on my sisters $100.00 Brother and it lets you use as long as a
stitch length as you want. Is there anyways this can be changed or that setting overidened. Please let me know... Now I regret buying online for sure.

Here are instructions for programming your own serpentine stitch. It's written for the 7700 but probably works for the 6500 as well. If the link doesn't work, google Diane Stutsman horizon it's the very first hit.

You might want to join the Yahoo Janome forum. Someone made a chart for the
Serpentine stitch and posted it there.
I don't believe you can/should use the link above because it's for the 7700 which
has wider stitches.

Yes, there is a way to create the serpentine stitch for your machine based on the info above. I don't believe this information is in the manual...just someone figured out a way to do it quite a long time ago. I have the 6600p (Elna version) and its the same way...yet lots of other machines ..vintage, cheapies and many Brothers do have the stitch that is fully adjustable. You did not make a mistake purchasing the 6500 and i think you can save the stitch to memory once you figure out how to program it. Have fun w/ your new Janome!

I've the same machine here, and that stitch, 25, is the one I use for joining batting off-cuts together for re-use.

I will admit I've been very lazy about using the decorative stitches tho, and have never tried programming other than for text. Will follow this thread and see what I can learn.

Btw, it's a grand machine for everyday use, I love it :-))) :)

Yes you can program the stitch to memory. I have a 6600P and use the stitch when quilting a lot. Love the machine.

I love my 6500! I've used it in my drapery shop, andnow that l'm retired, l quilt. I just use #09 in mode 1. It can be used up to 5 x 5 long. The resulting stitch set at 3 long is so close to serpentine, you need to look closely to see it isn't!
