Janome 6600P
 

Does anyone know what is a good price for Janome 6600P? Any problems with this machine?

new? or used?

The price is going to depend on the deal you can make with your local dealers. They have some leeway on the price, and sometimes the manufacturer allows extra sales or discounts. Your best bet there is to just go in and start negotiating! If you can find an expo or show where they're selling the machines, sometimes there are extra discounts to be had there (but not always). Call around to dealers that are close or close-ish to you and ask their prices - you might be able to play one dealer off of another to get the best deal.

As for the machine itself, I have had mine for around 4 years now, and I use it at least a few hours every weekend (and a lot more when I'm off work) and it's a wonderful machine. I looked into upgrading it to a bigger/fancier Janome a couple years ago and after doing a bunch of test-drives I decided I liked the 6600 the best! It's a great machine, I've had zero troubles with it, not even after I let my 8 year old niece play with it. It's a real workhorse. The built-in walking foot is a great feature. And it's a good machine for FMQ; I barely have to change my settings and I haven't ever bothered to buy the FMQ bobbin case - don't need it. Mine is not picky about thread or needles but is fussy about the bobbins - it tends to make knots if I don't use Janome-brand bobbins. That's the only "finicky" thing about it.

If mine were to get stolen or perish in a fire, I'd buy another one just like it. :)

I love mine also. Gave $2500 for mine new but got $1000 trade in for my Bernina which constantly was in the shop. Guess I got a lemon. But that has been at least 10 years ago, it has been serviced twice.

Love the 6600 - it is a great machine. No issues with mine - paid $1500 for it 5 years ago.

I got a well used one that had just been traded in for $350. Love it and never had a lick of trouble out of it.

I paid $1800 for mine about 8 years ago. Bought it new. The foot tends to have a wiggle to it.

I absolutely love my 6600P. I wore one out, after 10 yrs of HEAVY use. they sent it to the factory to be re conditioned. $250. BUT I purchased a 2nd one--new for use, while it was at the factory. 2 yrs ago. I paid $1700 from a dealer. the orginal one last another yr. of heavy use, before it froze up again. then I broke in the new one.
I seem to think 6600P's are 'old school' now. don't they have the 6700 now?

I bought mine in 2008 and paid $2000 for it. I would not give mine up for anything. In 2014 I purchased the Janome 15000 because of the embroidery unit and quilting capabilites but still have the 6600 and use it a lot. Especially while the 15000 is stitching out an embroidery design.
The 6600 is an amazing machine and if you do a search, you will be hard pressed to find anyone who says they have had problems with it. In fact for some of my uses, I prefer it to the 15000, just does better with some projects, purses, wallets, Bionic Gear Bags, etc.

If you are looking to do garment sewing, know ahead of time it doesn't have a free arm feature for sewing on cuffs, or making small articles of clothing, like for dolls or infants.

6600 is truly a janome work horse. It has stood the test of time. You may be able to get a good used one as there is now a 6700. I don't know what the new features are in the 6700, but I imagine it is a heavy duty metal machine too.

I bought my 6600 in May 2011 (new, from a dealer). I paid $1,300 for it (the owner gave me a discount because I bought a 350E embroidery machine at the same time). I couldn't begin to tell you how many quilts I have made on that machine, but it's a large number. I bought the quilting bobbin case (which I recommend), and quilted many good-sized quilts on the 6600 (including a number of queens). I have never had the first complaint about this machine! My repairman works on all brands of machines, and he said the Janome 6600 is the best, and everyone loves it! As others have said, it is a real work horse, and a joy to use.

My 6600 is my favorite machine...I purchased in 2010 right before Christmas so I got a good deal at my LQS for paying cash rather than credit card. I have since purchased the Janome 8900 (a couple years ago) but cannot part with my 6600. I'm not sure what they cost now but the upgraded models are not built as rugged as the 6600 IMHO

I have the Janome 6500P instead. I'm told the only thing that is really different is the walking foot on mine has to be put on by hand instead of being built in. I paid over $1600 for mine and it has more stitches that I will never ever use. Probably the 6600P is the same way. Really look at the machine and evaluate all the stitches available. Would you really use them? Test the numerous quilting and utility stitches....the are actually quite small, so would you use them?
I ordered my machine on line and wish I had gone to a Janome store to see it before plunking down that much money.

I have nothing but good things to say about my Janome 6600. I love the 11" harp space for FMQ and the other features are great also.

The 6600 has a 9 inch work space, not 11 inch.

I bought mine almost 5 years ago for $1500, which included a wonderful sewing table that it fits in. I love it. You do have to use Janome brand bobbins. They look like other bobbins, but the 6600 knows the difference. I've made 65 quilts on her so far with no problems.

Bought mine used from a friend about 5 years ago. I love it. If it dies I would probably buy the same machine again. I use mine a lot and it ha held up well. I also have a Janome 9700 that does embroidery. I like the 6600P better.

I've had my 6600 five years now and paid 1100.00. It was on the janome sale around dec-Jan. It does not have a free arm but I have my 3500 Janome for that. Have had no problems with mine at all and I sew most days of the week. Mine has the accufeed foot not built in, but no problem changing the feet.

bought mine new 2008 also never a lick of trouble love this machine Only use Janome bobbins-for sure and yes I do throw bobbins away after a year. I select about 10 bobbins, use them Throughout the year then pitch! All plastics wear out. I change my needle every other week no matter what. If I'm really on a tear I change it every week. Have this beauty serviced every year while we go on vacation.
FYI. Too often problems occur when one forgets to clean the feed dogs and bobbin case.

Love my 6600. Think I paid $1399.00 three years ago. One of the reasons I chose it
was because I was branching out into more quilting and a quilt shop owner told me they were "workhorses" in her shop. (She is not my dealer). I love it but had to take the class my dealer offered twice because for me anyway, there was a learning curve, compared to my non-computerized Husqavarna, which I also loved.

I hadn't heard there was a 6700 model - looks like it's brand-new, available Sept 1st. I am spotting a couple differences - more computerized looking (a drawback in my book) but faster SPM (1,200 instead of 1,000) and wider zig-zag on the new one. It'll be interesting to see if it holds up to the test of time like the 6600 has - I'm not sure how long Janome has been making that model but it's been out for years. I adore my 6600, it's such a fantastic machine.

I have had my 6600 for over 5 years,bought it used from a local SM dealer in town.I think I paid about &1800 for it then. It is a work horse! I have it maintaineced yearly and have had no real issues. I have a friend that had one, and dropped it while transporting it (they are heavy) and loved it so much she had it 'fixed' / rebuilt instead of buying something new. I wouldnot trade for mine.
I do have 2 others (all Janomes)one for embroidery & the other a 3160 for retreat, classes & takng camping. You can't beat a Janome.

I love my Janome 6600. It is a great machine. Like someone else said it doesn't have that free arm to be able to sew on sleeves and pant legs easily. That is the only thing that I can say negative about it.

I don't know what a good price would be. Like others have said with the new model coming out in a few weeks you might be able to pick up a trade in at a good deal ( I would never trade mine in though :) )
