When all else fails, ask the ladies and gentlemen on the board. I'm having a problem with my machine, both the upper thread and bobbin threads are skipping, sometimes as many as 5 or 6 stitches in a row, and then sews fine again for about 2 dozen stitches. I have removed the bobbin and case and killed all the dust bunnies, checked to make sure the bobbin is in right and it still does it. Unfortunately, the manual is still packed somewhere, if I haven't lost it all together. Any ideas?

That problem usually means that I'm overdue for a new needle.

Try changing your needle and rethread your machine. It could be the combination of thread your machine doesn't like. Good luck!

Sounds like your needle might not be all the way up in its shaft. Try putting a new needle in.

Are you sewing on cotton?

Sounds like your tension is off. I have the 6600 P and recently had very similar problem. After doing everything I was suppossed to and then some, I ended up taking it in to the tech. The tension was way off as was the tension on the bobbin holder. Cost me $75 for a complete tuneup.

I want to say thank you ladies...I knew I would get the solution to my problem here. I never even thought about the needle, and it's probably been 4-5 months since I changed it. Did a test drive with her and she runs great...again thank you!

I usually change needles after each quilt or project, but at least every 2 weeks. Saves a lot of frustration for me :)

I know better than to leave the needle that long...after a small panic attack, I will be doing proper maintenance on this machine. It's not that I don't own other machines, I have 3 Singer Treadles, a Singer Quattro, A Janome Gem and A Janome MemoryCraft 11000. Unfortunately, this machine is my all time favorite (Janome 6600P), so I guess I better take better care of her. Once again, thank you, to everyone that responded to my question!
