Janome 7318, 8050 or 8077?
 

Hi everyone!

I'm new at quilting and am in the market for a machine. This is going to be my first sewing machine and have a budget of $200-300. I was looking into Brother and Singer machines, but have heard that for a little more money, I could get a lower end Janome that would last longer. Does anyone have these machines? If so, what are your thoughts on them? Pros and cons? Advantages of getting one over the other? Any input would be appreciated! Thank you! :)

There are higher end brothers that last longer for more money, some of the project runways are really good

Did you look at a Janome Hd1000 ? I'm a sucker for metal machines, but it is intended for heavy, not recreational, use. Or a Brother Cs 6000i, which has really great reviews. Or loom at used machines! Which can offer significantly more value for the price. Make friends with your local sewing machine dealers, if you have any.

I have the Janome 8050, among a few other machines. This is a tough Janome and a good buy at Hancock's. Worth every penny to me. I have used it now for free motion with good results - I used a pre-wound Masterpiece bobbin and King Tut thread to practice, and was really happy with the results. Tension up to 5, dogs dropped and stitch length at 0. I also bought the new low shank Janome four piece free motion set and LOVE it. I know that Janome makes solid machines at all price points, and so far I have had four of them and love them. I have given away the Jem Gold and the Jem Gold II, but I have the 8050 and the 115110 (the model that was the Kenmore 19110). Love both computerized Janomes. I bought my 8050 online when Hancock's had a terrific sale. :) Whatever you decide - happy sewing!

Last Sat. I bought a Janome DC1050 from a dealer for 299.00 and I like it so far. I haven't tested everything I'll be using yet such as the one step button hole attachment, but I believe I'll like it. I bought it from a dealer because I wanted someone local to work on it if need be and I sure didn't want to have to send it back to the factory. I shopped on the internet a lot so that I pretty much knew what I wanted. You can do a search on the machines you have in mind and you'll probably find you-tube demos which helped me narrow the field. Of course the one that cost $150 more was a better machine, but I wanted a light weight portable to take to classes and to use when traveling. So I kept to my budget and am very pleased. Hope you find something you like.
