janome 8200 makes clacking sound
My janome is making a horrible clackinga sound. I cleaned the lint and the bobbin holder is in right. Ang idea what the problem is?

I have a Juki and when I hear a clacking sound it means my needle has worked loose. Might not be your issue, but work a check.
Same thing is happening with my Janome 6500. I did the same as you. Going to the repairman next week.
I don't have a Janome but I have experienced a clacking sound before...kind of like just a really loud and annoying version of the same noise it normally makes. For me it is normally a damaged needle.
Also, check your presser foot to make sure it is secure. I was having a noisy clicking sound when using my walking foot. Finally decided to change feet and noticed that foot was loose. Bingo, that was the problem.

I just had the same thing with my 7700 cleaned everything, or so I thought. It kept clacking and the bobbin was acting up, so I took her apart again and I found a tiny piece of thread. Put her back together and voila...no more clanking sound.

When my machine, a older Pfaff, starts making noise, it usually means it needs cleaning, oiling and probably a new needle.
Sometimes, the clanking sound means the plastic bobbin case is damaged. Sometimes you can fix it by sanding off the rough spots (very gently, with a very fine sandpaper--about 400 gritt), but usually it just needs to be replaced.
I'm not sure about your Janome 8900 but when my Janome 6500 clacks it is the bobbin jumping and rattling. Under the bobbin case there is a little hole with an oil wick (it isn't lint!) that sometimes dries out and needs a drop of oil. No where in the manual does it tell you this and my dealer didn't tell me either! I found out about it finally on the Janome 6500/6600 Yahoo group. I just give it a little oil when it starts to clack and that has saved me from repair bills.

Any noise on my machines cause me to stop, check/replace needle, tighten needle, tighten presser foot shank, rethread, check bobbin, etc. User error every time. It disturbs me when people "blame" a machine on noise. On my Janomes, "noise" is a warning sign. Otherwise they sew quietly, which is why I buy Janome.
