Janome 8900 without the Embroidery unit
 

,,Does anyone here knows anything about the Janome 8900...not the special addition...the one that only sew and quilt...without embroidery.....
The information about this machine is very confusing
....It has a great space in the throat but I wonder how it really works....I am very far away from any dealers so I would appreciate all your comments.....Thanks in advance

I have the 8900QCP and love it.

No 8900's came with embroidery. All are sew and quilt only.

The Special Edition (in blue) has an upgraded bobbin area and a few other improvements. The early Special Edition (in red) is the same as the "original", just with a red faceplate.

The 8200 does not have embroidery.
The 8900 is very similar, but with the embroidery and a few other features that the 8200 does not and have nothign to do with the embroidery feature.

Check online with Janome .... you should be able to see all the features of each machine and make your comparisons.

I did a search...I WANT IT...11" throat..yum! I understood it not to have embroidery either, unless some people call decorative stitches "embroidery", and I have seen private sales ads that do that! It seems to me that the machines, 8900&8200 are almost the same. I would have loved to have the special red one tho. SO PRETTY.

I have the 8900 and I LOVE it!!!!

The Janome embroidery-compatible machine at the 82/8900 level is the 15000. The smaller embroidery-capable machine is the 9900. There's also a newer 14000 embroidery-capable machine.

The 8900 might have more decorative stitches (270 total stitches vs. 120) and monogram/lettering options, but I don't think that's what most folks think of when talking embroidery. The latter usually means having hoops and being able to stitch out designs larger than the machine's native stitch width :-)

Thank you girls.....I knew I can count on you.....I appriciate so much your replied...each one of you....I have an embroidery machines and the Brother PQ1500.... But don,t really have a nice big machine with decorative stitches....( only a tiny cheap machine for zig zag and the decorative....) I think it will be great to have a big sturdy machine that I would be able to stuck a quilt under and actually make some stitches here and there....( especially to cover some mistakes....LOL.....
This 8900 machine I think will be perfect for this job.....

nabobw..... Do you find the knee lift easy to reach ? Did you buy the special bubbin for this machine?? Does it make a nice stippling ???? Is it easy to rewind ????

i don't like the knee lift at all. i can't get it to a comfortable position. (it might be me ... i have always had the same problem with knee lifts.)

i didn't get the special bobbin case for my 8900. it stipples beautifully with the standard case.
you will need to make test "quilts" from big scraps until you find the perfect [for you] tension and free-motion foot adjustments. it won't take you long to figure out which settings work best for you. :)
