Janome foot pedal problems

I have a 6500 Janome that I love. But the foot pedal sticks sometimes and the machine keeps running. Is there something I can do to fix this. I hate to take it to a repair shop as I know it will be costly. Thanks

You could call the tech where you bought it or at a local Janome dealer and ask about it. Perhaps buying a new foot pedal would be cheaper than repairing one.

Had that happen to me a few months ago. A new foot pedal is in your future. Sorry!

I've heard that lint can get inside and gum up the works. (I have a 6600) Maybe try (carfully!) disassembling it and seeing if you can clean it out?

I have had to clean out mine several times. There are screws on the bottom to open it up. On the 6600 2 are hidden under the black rubber on the bottom of the pedal. They call it ghost sewing...lol.

Be careful in opening the foot pedal. I put a large towel on my kitchen counter, had my phone close by to take pictures as I took it apart....just in case I forgot where the screws went....there was lots of fuzz in there. If you have pets, it can be worse. You can do this!....a new foot pedal will be $100.

I wonder how much gunk is in mine? My machine is just over a year old, but I have 3 dogs and 2 cats contributing to the household "lint" level. So far no ghost sewing (love that phrase) but maybe next time I take her in for a check up and cleaning I'll ask if they can clean out the foot controller too. Can't hurt to ask!

That's so ironic--I'm having the same trouble with the foot pedal on my AQS. I took the pedal from one of my other Janomes and have been using that with it. I didn't realize the pedal could be disassembled. I'll have to take it apart and see how bad it is. We priced a new pedal and it was $80-$100. Since the machine only cost $350, I'm not paying that much for another pedal; especially since I can just "borrow" from another machine. Thanks for the cleaning tip!

I have the same problem and so does my friend. I'll have to mention this and see about cleaning it

I have had this with my old featherweight, took it apart, cleaned it and it worked OK for a bit but my "ghost" came back so I eventually had to replace it anyway! Could be just dirt, dust and lint, though, so taking apart and cleaning might buy some time for you!work for
