For those of your that do FMQ on a Janome Horizon, do you use the start/stop button or the foot pedal? If you use start/stop, what level of speed works best for you? Is there a reason for your choice or is it just personal preference?

I havent mastered that start/stop button yet, just cant co-ordinate moving fabric and accessing the button at the same time. Im a foot pedal girl by personal preference.

I have the 6600 which has the same start stop button. When I do FMQ i always use the foot pedal so I can stop in an instant and exactly at the right spot. i was taught by Harriet Hargrave to not take your hands off the quilt until you are stopped. Therefore I like to keep both hands on the quilt and not take one off to push the button. I also find the needle up down and the knee lift a great help with FMQ.

I use the start/stop button for everything. I got used to it and now find it aggravating to use the foot pedal.

I'm strictly a foot pedal user. I'm not coordinated enough to reach the button quickly when I need to.

I always use the Start/Stop button on my Singer Quantum L-500 when doing FMQ. I just find it easier because I'm only concerned about moving my hands, not coordinating hands and foot at the same time! I put my machine on the mid-point as far as speed. It works for me.

I used the Horizon at a FMQ class a few months back... followed the same setup... and that worked well also.

I haven't had my Horizon very long and have only done some SID with it but I've already concluded that the foot pedal is the way for me. When I tried the Start/Stop, I always wound up with a few stitches too many or a couple too short.

I'm trying both ways and I think I'm leaning toward the start/stop button, but I do see the merit in being able to stop on a dime with the foot pedal. I like seeing what others do and their reasons. You never know what you will learn :-)

I have had the 6600 for about a month and a half. It has the same start/stop button. I have a very bad ankle and both knees are bad. I am still learning to use the start/stop button and have put the pedal clear away. Not only is the start/stop better for my legs, my lower back appreciates it as well. It takes a lot of getting used to, but it is worth it, even in FMQ.

I use the foot pedal -- I have used the start/stop button but not for FMQ.
