I have decided that I NEED a Janome Horizon....thanks to everyone who has posted here with their views.

I can get the machine near my home for $2700 - and no sales tax.

I am currently in Nebraska and a shop is having a Christmas sale that includes the Horizon, the table, the case and $60 in thread for $2800.

I think this is a good deal. How about you?

ljsunflower 11-12-2010 04:38 PM

I hadn't heard of this machine & had to go research it some.
It looks good. Computerized, right?
Not sure I'd pay $2700 for a sewing machine with the economy tanking like it is but have fun with it!

Candace 11-12-2010 04:56 PM

I would not buy the machine because it's a few dollars cheaper. Buying from a dealer near you for support and classes is the way to go. You may be able to negotiate a bit with your local dealer. And for warranty service etc. you really ought to buy local. Just my two cents.

Shelbie 11-12-2010 05:16 PM

It's a much better deal than the one I can get in Canada. I was quoted $3200 including the table but no thread. I like this machine but need to stitch on it for awhile before I decide to buy it. I have heard that it doesn't like multiple layers or thick seams and may veer off the stitching line when crossing intersecting seams which isn't good for quilters.

Gatormom3 11-12-2010 05:33 PM

Price I was quoted today was $2999 which included a rolling travel case and some sort of thread box. I opted for the 6600 which was on sale. Buying locally seems to be advantageous in terms of customer service if needed.

Yellow Bird 11-12-2010 05:33 PM

It is more like $800 less than actual retail. While I agree that purchasing locally would be ideal, I have to drive close to 100 miles to get to a 'local' dealer, so not an ideal situation.

I agree.
Whatever you do though, enjoy and be sure to post a pic!!
Wow, I just read your update- 100 miles?? Ouch!

PS. I had to chuckle over your NEED in caps. I'm like that with vintage machines, and YES it's because of this board!
lol

I checked this one at the Houston show. It was nice, but the man tells me that other than the storage of the extra feet and the light at the needle, oh, and the pop up chart of the stitches they were the same working machine as my Janome 6600. I love mine and I do not think I would trade it in for the Horizon. You made a good choice.

gaigai 11-12-2010 07:38 PM

Umm, at the risk of starting trouble, I got mine last weekend and paid $1999.00. About $2140.00 with tax.

And it has a two inch bigger throat than the 6600, which doesn't sound like much, but is HUGE!!

Jamiestitcher62 11-12-2010 07:44 PM

Wow, I paid $2,999 for mine in CT. I traded in my 6600 cause I didn't like it at all. No freearm and the Accufeed on the 6600 always ate my fabric.

The Horizon is much better especially since they redesigned the 1/4" foot and have shipped it to everybody who registers their machines online at Janome.

I didn't even get a table with the Horizon. Connecticut sucks.

gale 11-12-2010 07:45 PM

It sounds like you've already made up your mind. 100 miles isn't what I consider "near my home" but I guess compared with a state halfway across the country it would be. lol. Good luck and enjoy when you get it! It's supposed to be a really really amazing machine.

Joanie2 11-12-2010 09:43 PM

I have a friend who went to PIQF and purchased that machine for $2400 --- through Ray's Sewing Machine Center in San Jose. She said she will get 100% trade in value should she decide to do that later. She said it was not a show special. You might want to Google them.
Good luck.

quilterella 11-13-2010 01:18 AM

As much as I want one, I'm going to wait until the hoopla dies down...for two reasons i) I just had unexpected shoulder surgery this past Tuesday, so, no quilting and no paycheck for the next 12 wks...and 2)the price will stabalize within the next 12 months. When the 6600 came out, it was the same thing...price varied from $1899.00 to $2499.99 and after 6-12 months the price evened out...I paid $1899.00 for mine.

sewcrafty 11-13-2010 01:32 AM

When I just visited my dealer, they have a Christmas Special going. The machine, table, rolling sewing tote, and thread for $2499.00.

Gatormom3 11-13-2010 05:57 AM

Thanks! Since the 6600 was on sale at my LQS, it ended up being about half the cost of the 7700. I would have had a hard time justifying spending so much on a machine which would then, of course, need fabric to create. Would be nice if the sale would have included some free fabric!

Also the 7700 has a convertible plate. It automatically switches from single hole to zig zag. Plus the extra throat space and I think some more stitches.

Yellow Bird 11-13-2010 07:25 AM

I have decided to hold off ....as people have said the price has yet to settle.

If someone in New Hampshire can get the same thing for $400 less, I'm willing to bet it will be available in my 'home' area that in the near future.

I was surprised when one dealer quoted a 'retail' price as several hundred dollars higher than an other dealer I had talked with.

It pays to ASK here and to know what is available.

Thanks all!

stichinluvr 11-13-2010 07:36 AM

That's a good deal. Most around here are selling them for $2999. That incluudes the machine and acrylic expansion. You'll love the machine. I have one and it's really nice. Make sure you get the new 1/4 foot with it.

Yellow Bird 11-13-2010 07:38 AM

Yes to the new 1/4 inch foot. That seems to be the only item people have a real issue with.

Conniequilts 11-13-2010 07:51 AM

I think it is a fabulous deal. The place I am looking at one wants 2900 for just the machine.

kwhite 11-13-2010 01:33 PM

Have you decided to keep it?

I was quoted $2995 as the msrp. The dealer gave me $500 trade in for my 20 year old Janome XCEL. Then she spent about an hour teaching me to use the new features on the store model. I must say I LOVE this machine and find it is well worth the price. Prior to buying this one I have never spent more than $800 for a sewing machine.

WOW! Thats a GREAT price! ... I'm in the Houston area, can you tell me who you bought from?? I tried the 7700 at the quilt show, I'd LOVE to get one - but they weren't dealing for that price, even on the class machines ...?

Yellow Bird 11-30-2010 02:04 PM

Update....after returning to Northern California I was unable to find the price I had originally been quoted.

The really irritating part is the dealers who inflate the MSRP to make their price look good. I was quoted as high as $3,400 for the Horizon.

This morning I finally found a reputable dealer who WANTED to sell a machine. I pick it up tomorrow....along with the table, tote, thread and a 3160QDC.

I am SO excited!

gaigai 11-30-2010 02:18 PM

OK, here's an update on mine: I no longer have the 7700. I was really unhappy with the way it sewed. My MC4000 sewed MUCH better. The 7700 would not sew over bulky seams. Yeah, I know, Janome knows that and have redesigned the 1/4 foot to fix the problem, but it didn't, at least it didn't on the machine I got. I was so disappointed with the way the thing sewed in comparison to my little old MC, that I took it in and traded it for a Babylock. While I am still disappointed in Janome, I LOVE my new machine.

I know there are a lot of people who love their 7700's, and I hope it turns out well for all of you. But my advice is to take one of YOUR blocks to the store and sew before you buy. Good luck.

Yellow Bird 11-30-2010 02:22 PM

I intend to take one of my 'mini' quilts with me to try.

I also paid $2999 + tax for mine in Texas, with nothing extra than what came out of the box. It has tons of feet and the acrylic expansion table and that soft cover, but nothing else. I'm a bit steamed about the price after seeing what others paid for theirs, but I have to admit I was in a hurry and didn't compare prices. My dealer (20 miles from me) is the only one around where I could look at them, and I wasn't willing to drive clear across Houston.

Yellow Bird 01-16-2011 03:16 PM

At least your dealer isn't far. Mine is 125 miles away - and I've already had to drive there to have a warranty item taken care of.

Ouch!

krabadan 01-16-2011 04:13 PM

I have one and the machine is worth it. It's a joy to sew on.

Yellow Bird 01-16-2011 04:45 PM

I haven't yet tried free motion quilting on it, but I adore all the different stitches and how easy it is to use!
