Janome Jem information
 

I want to purchase a Janome Jem Platinum 720 or 760 for quilt group and RV travels. I am only interested in this line of machines because of their reliability, stitch qualities, stitch selection and they are lightweight. I am most interested in the Janome Jem Platinum 720 as I don't need the extra stitches the 760 has, as I have 2 top of the line machines. (The basic Janome Jem doesn't have the appliqué stitch I need so I am discounting that model.) I have 2 FW's so not interested in FW.
Can anyone tell me if these 2 machines 720 & 760... are identical except for the # of stitches? It looks like the 720 may be phased out so I want to jump on one if still available. I am 300 miles from my dealer so thought I might grt some good information here. Thank you!

I have a Janome Gem Platinum but I am not sure which model.. I absolutely love this little machine. I bought it with some inheritance money to take to classes. I call it my crackerjack.. it is so little but is a very sturdy little machine.

I had both of them and it has been a few years since I upgraded to the 3160. I think (but may be wrong) that the 760 has more button hole options and it has a button with the lock stitch but the main reason I remember I liked it better was because it was more stable when I was sewing. Because of how light they are, they sometimes wobble when you sew fast and I remember the 760 did not do that as much.

It's kind of hard to read, but I found this comparison chart of features on the two machines:

It shows that, aside from the difference in number of stitches, the 760 has 3 additional styles of 1-step buttonholes. I also read on Amazon that the hard case is option on the 720 but standard on the 760 (oops! that is also noted in the brochure comparison.)

I have the 720 and love it. On the advice of the salesperson, I kept the Styrofoam packaging because I especially wanted this machine for airline travel. I decided it was more important that the front face of the machine was protected so I cut channels for the luggage pull up handle into that piece of Styrofoam and then placed it within a large plastic bag (so it would not 'shed' all over everything else). It fits perfectly into a regulation airline carry-on and has had its share of adventures traveling to and from retreats. Definitely a keeper in my books.

I have the original Janome Jem Gold model and it has never given me one bit of trouble. These portables are made to last.

Thank you everyone who posted here! I ended up purchasing the Janome Jem Platinum 760!! The 760 was on sale $200 off, when I told my darling hubby.. he said, 'buy the 760, silly!!' ... he didn't have to encourage me one little bit to upgrade it to the 760!! It is on order so I'm sitting here anxiously awaiting my little Jem,(pun intended)to take to Quilt group and our RV trips!! I am SEW Blessed, and very very thankful!

720 & 760 are the same, except for number of stitches & a few bells & whistles. That said, I sell way more 720's. It's the PERFECT portable. And, a far better made machine than a 3160
