is a Janome Memory Craft 9000 worth it??
 

Have a chance to bid on a Janome Memory Craft 9000 for a very cheap price (the shipping will add some but not badly) and wondering about feed back on it? I'm thinking of it for my daughter for her "at home" machine (she already has a light weight Singer computerized cheaper machine for travel and a really basics lightweight as a starter from me)

It is difficult to know what a good price is. Just remember by not buying from a brick and motor store that there will be no support in getting any bugs out or classes on how to operate the machine. You might check out Amazon for reviews.

If it will be used mainly for regular sewing and it is really inexpensive it would be good. The SW part for emb. is way outdated. It might even be hard to find someone who can help you learn it. This SW part is so old you will have a very difficult time finding floppies to use. I would suggest you not buy less than a 12000. I have had from the 10K all versions up to the now 15K and the difference is light night and day but the simply sewing part would be great.

I recently purchased a 9000, have not had any problems. The manual is very good and you can download if you do not get one. While I am a quilter first and foremost I did not want to spend lots of money for an embroidery machine if I was not going to use it. True you must use memory cards however they are readily available on Ebay and are quite reasonable. The machine mother board is not replaceable so that is the risk you take for the cheaper purchase price. So far I am not sorry. As far as sewing it has everything I need. You will find there are lots of 9000 machines out there still sewing.

I had one and loved it. Upgraded to an 11,000 and now have the 15,000. Gave it to my daughter who loves quilting. She loves it.

thanks, all. I didn't realize it was also an embroidery machine until I did further internet research. Think I will pass as the reviews on cost of repair (especially if mother board dies) was intimidating. What I really need to do is haul myself away from quilting long enough to go to some machine stores in the city and check out what they have in the way of used machines.

I have this model and still use it without any problems. memory cards can still be purchased from ebay or others who have upgraded to a newer model.

My 9000 is 14 years old and is a lovely machine.

I have had my 9000 since 1993 or 1994. I love it. I take it in yearly for maintenance and only had the bulb changed in all that time. I would buy another one ! It was my first embroidery machine - I know a dealer that wants it when I am ready to sell. Keeping a machine clean EACH time it is used and normal maintenance is the best advice.
