jelly roll quilt formula?

I have someone who wants a queen size jelly roll quilt. Is there a formula to know how long the initial strip needs to be to end up with a queen size quilt?

Thanks for your advice.

This should help you. It was posted on the QB earlier this month

Do you mean you want to use the Jelly Roll Race method? Several guild members made theirs into queen size by adding borders. One made her race quilt a king size by sewing more strips together, she said until she got tired of sewing strips, she didn't count.

Someone has worked out that measurement and others. Go to http://exuberantcolor.blogspot.com/2011/07/jelly-roll-race-aka-random-plank-quilt.html
