Jelly Roll Race Question
 

I just unrolled a jelly roll. The fabrics are stacked from light to medium to dark -- they are all shades of blue. I was told to just start sewing them as they come off the pile. I'm concerned about how it will look in the end.
If someone else did theirs this way I'd love to see a photo to alleviate my fears.
I'm sure I'm worried over nothing, but I'm used to being more precise about colors and this willy-nilly jelly roll quilt is out of my comfort zone.
Feel free to berate me. I know everybody else thinks this is a great way to bang out a fast quilt.

My fav way to jelly roll race is to cut my strips in half at the fold, put them in a bag and shake and have my kiddo hand me random strips. I get less pooling of color and they always come out nice :). I love precuts

it will come out beautifully. after the first strip is sewn, it will get doubled, then doubled again till it's about a twin size. it will come out great. show us what you did tomorrow. it doesn't take long, and as you sew, it goes together quickly.

Remember to turn it so you are going back and forth across the quilt top, they say not to sew them all in one direction because it will start to bow.

I have done this quilt several times and each time I throw all my strips into a brown paper bag and pull one out at a time. I sew them together as they come so the quilt is random.

You can start and see however you wish.

It will turn out beautiful either way. Just start and you'll be hooked. When I made a jelly roll race, I had to add additional strips at the end to make it longer. Proportion was the only problem I had with it.

The design is random, even if you try to organize it, it will come out random.
Have fun with this quilt.

I would lay them out across my largest table and let my own eyes tell what looks good next to each other.

There is no sense in trying to coordinate colors - the nature of the beast makes it pretty much impossible to plan a jelly roll quilt. You will be pleased no matter what!

When you first start, don't you cut the first strip in half so that you get staggered joins?
