I haven't used mine yet. Since I mainly make large quilts - Full to queen I figure I would need to cut some to go with it.

here's a YouTube video, making a whole (48"x64") quilt with one jelly roll: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EomX7t7to_o

I recently used 2 1/2 for a queen size quilt. I used the other half to make piano keys for the pillow case borders. One would make a lap quilt with additional for backing.

Are jelly rolls 2.5 inches wide? Figure 41 inch usable length?
If just sewn side by side, that would make something about 40.5 x 80 inches long? |
Love the video, this will be my next quilt.

How many strips are usually in a jelly roll?
|
For a Twin size quilt I used 1 Jelly roll + 35 - 10inch squares (layer cake) + 10 - 5 inches squares So for a twin size you will need more than one jelly roll
My pattern is call Confetti by Cheryl Malkowski from Timeless Treasures featuring lollipop Tongo treats and the finished size is 60X84. My 10 inches and 5 inches squares are very dark purple /black batik. |
Thanks for the thread. Great question. And thanks to everyone who chimed in. Loved all the great info. :) :)

I need 2 with supplements from my collection for a bed quilt. My bed quilts are usually large double/queen. |
I have a pattern I'm thinking of making that takes 1 jelly roll and 1 layer cake. The layer cake is used for the border. The size is 70ish by 80ish so if you want the quilt a little smaller you can use just the jelly roll.
