Jelly Rolls
 

I bougt 2 Jelly Rolls (Timeless Treasure - Islad punch. Beautiful colors but not quite sure what to do with them. Should I wash then first? I never worked with Batiks. Any input would be appreciated. I lurk and am learning quite a lot from all the knowledgeale people on here. I rest assurred you ladies will steer me in the right direction. Any comments/suggestions most welome.

I wouldn't wash them. You'll end up with a mess. I'd just use two or three Color Catchers in the wash for the first two or three washes.

hard to wash them if you have never washed strips before. My only issue with TT batiks is that they are thin...but I have not had one bleed. After your done sewing your project just be sure to wash with a couple of color catchers.

I had thought of washing them separately according to colors in the lingerie bags. Machine or air dry? I thought I just absolutely HAD to have these combinations of colors. Hope I don't regret it. Still unsure what to make from them.

I would never wash them. What a mess you will have and then you will have to iron them. BOOOO

There are a lot of free online patterns out there. Do a google search and see what you can find. I use some of the jelly rolls for log cabin blocks or rail fence or courthouse steps, but there are lots of other things you could use them for.

If you are unsure you can always soak them in water and see if they bleed- I have been soaking fat quarter batiks for a week and believe it or not the blues and greens are the ones bleeding the most :thumbdown:

I would not pre-wash them, either. I also got a couple of Island Punch strips -- I'm thinking of adding some more greens and oranges with mine before putting it in a quilt. Just jump in and sew them up!! DO check the width of them occasionally, as I have gotten some slightly less than 2.5 inches. Good Luck!!!

Hopefully your strips are die cut. If so, they will probably all be the same size. There are lots and lots of patterns to use with jelly rolls. I am sure there are free patterns on the web. If you don't see anything you like, look on amazon for books with patterns for use with jelly rolls. There are also other used book sites that could have quilt books for a lower price. I haven't looked on these sites for books about quilting but you might try www.alibris.com or www.abebooks.com I have no connection with either of these sites/stores.
