Jellyroll rug
I finally got brave and started a Jellyroll rug. At about two thirds of the rug I noticed some of the edges started to curl up,not like a bowl but like waves. Any ideas on how to fix this? I am pressing the rug every half round.

I did see a round jelly roll rug made into a Christmas tree skirt so that is an option since it wouldn’t need to lay flat for that.

I used best press and kept pressing mine and then a good final press is what mine took to lay flat. I have only made one so no expert just what I did to get mine to lay flat.

I have the pattern and I think I will make the rectangle on first.

I took a class for making the rug. The key is to let the machine feed the strips, do not push or pull only guide the strips. The rounded ends are what determines the wave or cup formation. They have to be very relaxed and laying flat when sewing. Also not use a short or tight zig zag stitch. Some of the class had waves along the sides, one had a bowl effect. A few had very flat rugs. Mine was flat. I didn't press it while sewing. I was actually bored with it by the time I started sewing it together so just wanted it done by that time. In other words I didn't overly try getting it right.

I gave up on mine after I had a tsunami wave on each side. My ends were beautifully flat. After unsewing it twice, I'm thinking that maybe it's not my best talent.

If the waves are small, wouldn't walking on the finished rug tend to flatten it?

In the class I took, the instructor emphasized that the rug needs to be flat on a table flush with the machine when sewing it together. I'm blessed with a machine and table like that and my rug is flat (and I'm no expert, for sure!!)

Quilt Addict Anonymous has several YouTube videos that are very good. If you have time check them out.
