Jenny's Binding Tool Tutorial

I just watched Jenny using The Binding Tool ruler to finish her binding. Is the ruler a good thing to have? It made finishing the binding look so easy. I know you don't have to have it. I just wondered if anyone used it or was it just another quilting gadget.

I bought one similar to that and never use it.

it's handy, but you don't actually need a special tool to finish your binding.
search You Tube.
there are a lot of good tutorial videos there that will show you how to do it without a special tool.

this is the video i found last year that helped me figure it out:

one note: if you are working with straight cut binding (not bias), make sure to leave no more than the 1/8" gap she recommends.

here's another good one:

I have one and I really like it. Jenny has a tutorial using the binding tool to make a table runner that I am going to try.

The Binding Tool is one of the best tools I have ever purchased in over 25 years of quilting! I love it! Just make sure you watch the video and get your cuts going correctly!

I use the binding tool on every quilt I make. Maybe it is because I am left handed; but until I got the tool, I'd have to rip and rejoin the binding 3 or 4 times before I got it right. I'd watch videos, look at printed instructions; but still had problems. With the binding tool, my bindings are joined correctly the first time, every time. Needless to say, I love that tool and it has been worth the cost to me.

Lafpeaches mentioned Jenny's runner using the binding tool. I made one and enjoyed doing it so much I immediately made a second one. Can't vouch for how useful it is for binding, I haven't tried it yet, but I keep finding little things to do with it. For me personally it was a good purchase and hasn't gone into that drawer of "why did I buy this" items.

I loved it when I first got it - every time I used it I had to watch her video again. My mind just could hang on to the details, it was frustrating - me, not the tool. Once I got the hang of it, I don't need it - but it really helped me through the learning curve and I am glad I bought the tool.

I use the Sharon Schamber method, it works great every time. She has a YouTube video showing how she does it.

I had two different rulers, never really used them. one for joining the ends and the other is for bringing backing forward for a self binding.
