Wow-just finished reading it! Looks like it can only be a positive thing for us quilters! (mind you, I feel like I have contributed to their successfulness single-handedly! LOL) Bigger and better stores in their future-hope they keep up with the good sales and coupons!! Thanks for the info!

Hope you're right. The closest fabric store (JoAnn's) is 3 hours away. We really only have one very small area in Walmart. There are a couple of quilt shops, but their fabric is very expensive.

They are in the process of closing the Jo Ann's here in Huber Heights Oh. Cannot understand why, although this article might be part of the answer.

Our small Joann's in Brookfield CT closed and reopened as a Superstore in a new location...So many new fabric sections I spent 2 hrs today picking out light and darks to start a traditional log cabin quilt I promised I'd do in the New Yr.
I decided to go out of my box of colors and go aqua blue and browns....

I will keep positive thoughts about this acquisition. Things can only get better with JoAnn's.

I'll be watching what changes they may make. I'd love to see more merchandise.

Wow I used to live in Huber Heights, on Rolling Glen Drive. Small World.

I found out the store in Roanoke, VA is liquidating because they will be moving and opening a new superstore at Tower Road Mall. Guess this may be the reason.

Wish I had bought shares when they were lower. Oh well.

i know!!!! I couldn't believe that. I found that out the day after Thanksgiving. They've added to the store here in Trotwood (where i live) and i'm glad, because i thought it was going to close (like so much on this end of town)

When I graduated college (1982) I worked for the original owner and founder of JoAnn Fabrics in Cleveland. She was quite elderly at the time - her children ran the company - she just managed one of the stores. Very interesting woman from the old country!!

I think it said they want to go private to increase the number of outlets for competition. In that case, the prices are going to get better! I know the one in Spokane, WA remodeled to increase size and quantity and quality of items not to mention variety. Really happy here!!!

jljack 12-23-2010 09:28 PM

Well, since they are taking the company private, they won't have to be concerned about paying dividends to stockholders. I think that is a positive thing.

Thanks. We are looking for a new puppy now. But since we will be gone for a month in May/June, we are trying to hold off. Thanks for your kindness. We sure are dog lovers, quilt lovers, cat lovers

so sorry to hear of your pup passing away, I'm sure he is somewhere on the rainbow bridge running around with all of the other great pets that have gone before us.

Mbarnett 12-24-2010 07:17 AM

Sorry you don't live in Dallas. I have 3 JoAnn's within 10 minutes of me. Think I would have to go if these stores went.M
