I have bought bolts of extra wide muslin for backing when I get the "good" coupon or scratch off.
|
I have noticed the same thing... their coupons are for regular priced items but I hardly ever find a regular price item. Everything I look show a marked down price (fact or fiction I don't know). I often feel like it is a sales technique just to get you in the store as well...

will Joann gift cards work at Michaels? I got one for mothers day that I will be shopping with
|
Our Hobby Lobby does not take anyone else's coupons. I used my 60 at Joann's to buy a Fisher Price baby CD. I have a baby shower to attend and like to add music to my gift. The other things that I use my coupons for are adhesives for scrapbooking and candy melts in the Wilton section. These items are not usually on sale. I melt the cocoa flavored candy disks and stir in graham cereal and mini marshmallows to make no bake "Smore" cookies.

I haven't ever received a 60% off coupon!! But I do know what you mean that most times things are already on sale and you can't even use the coupon! You could us that coupon at Hobby Lobby or even Michaels if they sell anything else you want.
|
Our joanns will let you use the coupon IN PLACE OF the on sale price BUT it goes back to the regular price for being on sale.
Example. If something is 24.99. Regularly and on sale for 40% off. You can use your 60% off coupon but it comes off the 24.99 price. So using that coupon would be better than the 'sale' price. HTH |

I'm waiting to get a 60% to buy 108" wide backing for my quilt in plain black. It is not on sale, and is $9.99 a yard, so if you need something like that you could really save!
|
AliKat and AZ Jane - 35th will take Joann's coupons, but not those sent to you by email. Love this store!!!
|
Joann's is known for offering big discounts like that BUT the items can't be on sale. Just Try and find something not on sale. Almost impossible. everything seems to be at least 10% off. Think we all need to write and complain

Thanks, I love your name! I named a 1914 Singer 115 treadle "Opal Violet". I'd been watching "Keeping Up Appearances" on PBS, one of the characters is named Violet; her sisters are Hyacinth and Daisy, can't recall the other one's name. It seems to me that's what Joann's does. Everything I want to buy is on sale. I feel your frustration! I got a 40% off coupon. |

When you order online you are only allowed to use one coupon (as far as I can find) and I try to see if shipping or
the % off is worth more. |

To be honest, I have my doubts that it will work. 2 years ago, while visiting my MIL in Sacramento, I discovered that she is friends with the regional manager of Joann's corporate. When she found out I am a quilter, she asked if I shopped at Joann's a lot. I told her no, and explained why. I also told her that none of my quilty friends shop there for the same reason. I had hoped since she was mid-to-upper management that my comments would work their way up the chain, but nothing has changed. :(

I have asked they charge the full price and then use the coupon. Not sure when that was, a few years ago - and at first they thought I was nuts, but did it. The problem is, these coupons come so often and they have so many "sales" I don't get excited unless I need something.

I have not ordered any batting on-line with Joann's - but the last e-mail I received showing the shipping of $1.99 special said it may not apply if the item is too large or heavy. They usually have free shipping over $50.00, I believe. But if they are putting a weight restriction on these things, I believe there should be something that states "Shipping of this item is ...." I really do not want to wait until I am checking out that the shipping is more than I care to pay. Not sure how that would apply to a full roll/bolt of batting. That is a large item. I have been thinking about ordering it since the last time I went in to buy it the sales person told me there wasn't any in the back - but it just so happened I had to go again the next day and there it was. Oh wow, it was a miracle because I was there on Saturday afternoon and no batting but it was there on Sunday morning. The same person was working as I walked up to the cutting table to get the slip on it, she had someone else wait on me. She should have just said it must not have been unpacked the day before because she couldn't find it. Any way, that made me think I should just buy it on-line, but now not sure.

Beverly's also honors competitors' coupons

Use it online at JoAnn.com there should be a number on the coupon for online use (not the coupon number)

Today was Senior Day at my local Joann's. I went to do some serious shopping but all the fabrics I saw was made in China which I will not buy. I wanted to buy a bolt of the RocLon muslin which I have always bought but lo and behold it was made in China. I also wanted some Quilters basting pins only to find all their notions (Dritz) are now being made in Malaysia. I had a lot of coupons, some which I printed online, wasted my paper, couldn't use any of them.
So much for shopping at JoAnn's, won't go there again. |
I had two 40's and couldn't use them. It never used to be that way. Sue

I find most of their clerks to be rude and fairly ignorant when it comes to fabric or sewing in general. The store is usually only half stocked. Lines are always long and slow. The entire place needs a good cleaning. Rarely do they have anything I can't live without. The fabric selection is pretty awful. I go for thread if its on sale. Coupons are worthless. Fortunately, I am near many great quilt shops, Hobby Lobby, and own a computer!
|
It always irritates me when this happens! The first time, I was so excited because I had a bucket load of coupons and then get to the store and WHAT-THE-???? Everything I would consider purchasing was on sale (at a smaller discount than the coupon offered, I might add), which to me reduced my bucket load of coupons to birdcage fodder! Now coupons don't excite me anymore...
|
I was there yesterday and Kona was on sale for 5.59 so I bought a whole bolt of white and 5 yards of blue and got an additional 20% off for Seniors day. I didn't bother taking any coupons because I knew I wouldn't be able to use them. Last time I went, I had a 50% coupon and I wanted the Fiskars Hexagon cutter for a GFG quilt and of course, they were on sale for 40% off. I gave my coupon to another lady in the store and she couldn't use it either, so she gave it away.
|
Last time I got one of the 60% off coupons I had them cut about 7 yards of backing fabric because I didn't think it was on sale. When they rung it up, it was 20% off and I couldn't use my coupon. There is rarely anything in the store that you can buy with that coupon. I've used it for a candy bar a few times, just to use it.
|
I went to my JoAnn's yesterday and they don't even sell Kona Cotton anymore!

Why are so many people bashing Joann's. There is always plenty of things NOT on sale such as rulers, thread, quilting notions, general notions, some yarn, many craft items etc! Joann's will OFTEN have % off your total purchase that includes sale items. I just bougfht fabric on sale a Joanns and used 20% off on senior day and saved an additional $10 for a total savings of $38 on a final bill of $44. I was HAPPY!!! Joanns will accept other stores coupons as long as that store carries the item coupon is being used for and they will accept as many coupons as you have aslong as the numbers are different. (if cashier does not accept the coupons then call the manager since this is their policy). Hobby lobby on the other hand only accepts THIER coupoons and the only ONE per day. Micheals will accept other stores coupons but usually give me a hassle and then has to ring them on seperate transactions.
If you have joann's coupons that you are not going to use then send them to me- I am sure I can find something to use them on!!!!! |

joanns does not set the price on sewing patterns. The price is printed on the envelope. The prices have been very high for the past several years- $15+ for one pattern! However very often joanns and Hl will have a specific pattern manufacture on sale for $.99 or $1.99. That is the time to BUY!!!!!! We all must be "frugal" shoppers in this day and age!
|
Since I seems to be on a rant this morning- IMHO the price of rulers is what is ridiculous- $30 fpr a piece of marked plastic! I know that you can get them on sale/coupon but they are still too pricy!

Because, obviously, your experience with Joann's is in the minority. I HAVE talked with the manager at my local Joann's and all I get is "it's corporate policy" and they can't do a thing about it. Sounds like your local Joann's might be a very rare customer-service-oriented store.
|
Well, to each her own. :) I don't think it should be my responsibility to educate the employees of a store as to what that store's policy is, and I shouldn't have to argue with a manager to get the best deals I can. Since I have plenty of other options in my region, I simply choose to make my shopping experience a much more pleasant one and shop elsewhere.

Actually my Joann's store is in Hudson, Oh which is right beside the Corperate Headquarters. In fact most of the Joann's in my area and there are about 6 are very pleasant but not all know how to ring up all the coupons that I take in. You have to be patient with them so you can save $$$$$. I do not expect all employess of Joans to know about everything even the workers in the fabric dept. If I need help I will ask if anyone is a quilter even customers or of course I can always ask the great ladies on this board. I have had bad experience in many stores but that does not keep me from going back to get what I need at as reasonable price.
