Joanns quilters flannel vs. Snuggle flannel
 

I purchases the bunch of the solid color "snuggle flannel" when it was on sale last weekend with the intention of using it as a backing. I got to thinking - is this material somehow different from their "quilters flannel"? Will it be ok to use for a backing?

The quilters flannel is heavier in weight, as evidenced by the higher price. You can use either for quilting (front or back), but the quilters flannel will probably last longer.

I bought a flannel at Joann's on sale for $2.99 a yard, thought I was getting a great deal.

It was terrible, it pilled so bad, I didn't even have the quilt finished before I wanted to tear it apart. I will only use the better flannel for quilting from now on. I don't know if there is a way to check it for pilling before you buy or not. But it sure would be nice.

I am not sure what it was called, but it was in the flannel section and the colors were all solid.

Uh oh. I wonder if they'll take it back...

If you haven't washed it or cut it and you have the receipt, they will take it back. I've always kept my receipts, so I don't know what their policy is if you don't have it. You have to take it to the cut counter to have it measured so that they know it is what you bought originally.

Yup, JA's flannel is really poor quality and pills like mad. I'm using up what I have and won't be be buying it ever again.

Is the joanns "quilters flannel" any better???

I use the flannel from Joanns all the time and have never had any problems with it -maybe luck of the draw ?

I go to the 94 year old ladies quilt store (5 miles away--4000 bolts in a single car garage)and buy the entire bolt of flannel for $30! I pre-wash it, put it back on the bolt and use it inside my wall hangings. Works fantastic. Just enough weight to help the hanging hang perfect! This lady has had this store for over 35 years. She has all the brands as in any other quilt store. Moda, batiks, Civil War prints, etc. The best thing is that the price is $2-$3/yard cheaper!!!!

All of a sudden Wisconsin just became a destination someday, I would be in a lot of trouble if I visited this ladies store...wow
