I have been warned that one should never use fabric from Joanne Fabrics for a quilt.
Some of the reasons are: The thread count can be irregular. The dyes can run. The pattern may not be the same throughout the piece. So, what does anyone say about that? Does anyone have real experience with fabric from Joanne's? |
Use the search feature above, there have been a million threads about Joannes. I buy most of my non-fabric related supplies there.
|
I buy 80% of my fabric from JoAnn's and I've never had a problem.
|
I like it too. I LOVE the 40 percent off coupons. Never had a problem either.
|
I buy from Joannes fabrics quite often. I've never had a problem either, Just have to know what you are buying.
|
Thats right, feel the fabric, really look at it. You can find great stuff anywhere, and icky stuff anywhere, too!

I use JoAnns quilting fabric since I am a beginner and don't want to spend $9.00 a yard for first quilts which I may ruin. They have just started to carry more quilting fabric here which seems to be of better quality. It normally runs from $8.99 to $12.00 but I use a 40 or 50% off coupon. I have looked at the LQS for fabric and found some that was discounted. Seems no matter who or where a person buys fabric it has to be looked at closely to see if it is nice quality. We have a new quilt shop that opened close to me and when I stopped to see what they were carrying I was very disappointed. Fabric is going up in price at all places around here. I have a god stash but always ready to buy more if I find a good deal.

I have made only one quilt from LQS fabric. The rest of my fabric is Joann's with a couple from Walmart. I have no trouble with the fabric there. I love Joann's. Some people have other standards. Everyone should buy the fabric they like and go from there.

I have never had a problem with Joanne's fabrics. In think their quality has improved. If I don't like the weight of the fabric, can see through it, etc. then I don't buy and keep looking.

CarrieAnne hit the nail on the head. I've bought fabric from LQS (several different ones), Joannes, Walmart, Hancocks (the chain), Hobby Lobby, you name it. You have to feel the fabric, look closely at it, etc no matter where you get it. BTW the only fabric I had that has bled was from the LQS.

I buy from Joanne's all the time and have not had any problems either

I use a lot of fabric from Joanne's and I haven't had any problems with it.

There's always someone who finds fault with a competitive company or one not near them. It's a sad situation.
Dodee :  |
I don't usually buy fabric from Joannes but I went today to stock up on supplies. I came home with fabric for the first time in years. Quite a few of the precut fat quarters were from Marcus, Blank Quilting and even a few Michael Miller! I was shocked, but pleasantly surprised. Paying about $2.75 per yard for these kind of fabrics is sweeeeet.

I buy from both LQSs and Jo-Anns. In fact, I just bought some more horse-themed Christmas fabric from Jo-Anns only yesterday. I used this fabric last year to make a wall quilt for one of my riding friends and absolutely love it.
Sure, the quality at Jo-Anns can be variable, but so can the quality from LQSs. I have received some free with order FQs from LQSs that were way worse than anything I have ever seen at Jo-Anns. |
Never had any problems..........however there is always a first time but I think that goes to say it could happen with any material where ever you buy.
|
Joanns is just like most places. Look your fabric over and if it doesn't meet your standards put it back. I have used fabrics from there and never had a bit of trouble.
|
I have used a lot of their fabric and never had any problems. You can find good and bad no matter where you go. The key is to be careful , watch what you are getting and you will be fine

I found that I can find the good stuff there if I really look. Usually the highest priced ones are nearest to the good quality. I have a lot of their stuff in my stash but I weed out the stiff cheaper stuff and send it off to the second hand stores. Now I just pay more attention when I shop there. The fat quarters are usually the poorest quality they have. But once in a while there are some good ones. Go for the silky feel and don't get the stiffer feeling stuff.
