I just finished grocery shopping. I am going to have lunch and then start quilting. It is cool and rainy here in jersey so it is perfect weather to wrap one in a quilt and sew.

I forgot to join in yesterday, but I've been piecing a Christmas Log Cabin quilt all weekend. I'm now putting the rows of blocks together. I have no camera available today, but the colors are muted reds, greens, tans, golds, and khakis. It looks very vintage. I don't know what I'm going to back it with yet...maybe a golden tan calico print.

Just read the invitation today, but I am (and have been) in. I've been fmqing for the past 3 days. Now it's time to square up and put the binding on this quilt for my DSIL. Just in time. Found out this morning she has a malignant tumor on her kidney. Was planning to take this quilt when I visit late next month. Better get it done and mail it. They'll take the kidney and that's supposed to get rid of the cancer, so no chemo. Hope this quilt brings her comfort.

Shirley, your quilt is lovely.

Thank you Raggiemom. It's been fun making it.

A very lovely quilt and my best to your sister. What is written on the edge of the quilt? I can't read the whole saying. I love the personalization.

Around the edge is a children's hymn from my childhood titled I Have a Garden by Maryhale Woolsey. It wouldn't all fit on, but I used most of the second verse, "I have a garden, a secret garden, Where tho'ts like flowers grow day by day; 'Tis I must choose them, and tend and use them, And cast all wrong ones like weeds away. Goodness and love are seeds that I sow, God up above will help me I know..."
We've been waiting a week for the results of DSILs tests, and about the time I started fmqing this hymn started singing in my head and set the fmq rhythm. The words fit because DSIL has sown goodness and love so I chose to use the hymn in the outer border. Thanks for the kind words and for asking about the words. |
Shirley how beautiful is your quilt? I am sure your DSIL will love it. I am praying for her to get a good outcome from her surgery.

Well my qb has gone home but she is really pleased with what she achieved. I am taking a break and catching up with the quilting board. I have managed to cut all the triangles and have completed 2 blocks so have 10 to go. Hope to get them done this evening. I am useless at posting pictures but will really try as I love the fabrics of this quilt. I bought it as a kit from Connecting Threads and am making it to raffle for a charity but I am really loving it and want to keep it!
