Much to my surprise, I have decided that I want to purchase a long arm quilting machine and start a small business from my home.

I have been using a short arm for the past 14 months and totally love FMQ!!!

I am in the process of selling my short arm and frame and purchasing a commerical long arm!

Does that sound crazy or what!!!! :) :) :)

doesn't sound crazy to me. Congratulations!

Good idea -- just don't get so busy that you don't have time
to do your own projects.

My friend has a long arm and it is her business. She does not have a life out of her basement. The only time she gets out is to deliver quilts and pick up more! As of right now she has over 60 quilts waiting to be quilted. She is very good and very reasonable. Her family has told her to raise her prices. I hope not! I keep telling her that for what the equipment costs I can have her quilt any that I do and I still will not spend that much. It takes time and practice to get good. She only does panto, not FMQ. She used to do custom quilting but ruined her elbows. Good luck with your business.

I know it's expensive, but get the computerized machine with driver motors. It will save your shoulders, etc. (but you'll still be on your feet).

I say "Go For It" because you will love it.

I am trying to find a Nolting 20" Fun Quilter to test drive. The sales rep is looking for one in my area, so that I don't have to travel 3+ hours to his shop.
