I am new to this, so I hope I am doing it right. Has anyone made this quilt? I have one to quilt, it is beautiful, and would like some ideas.

Is there a picture?

I just looked it up, WOW, that is an ambitious project! Please be sure and post a pic when you are done or even as you go along!

WOW!!! That is a beautiful pattern!!! :D:D:D
I would be tempted to do an all over, larger motif. Nothing to complicated to take away from the pattern.

Oh wow....I'd have to really think about it, the quilt is fantastic...I'd hate to take away from the piecing, it is so spectacular!

Definitely a simple stitch in the ditch will do. You don't want to take away from the pattern.

Thank you so much for posting a picture of the pattern. I wasn't sure how to do that.

I think that if I did anything other than SID...which I would do around and through all of the "stars"...I would maybe...maybe...maybe consider doing a feather motif in the areas around the border on the outside of the "stars". Something to separate the stars from the background surrounding it. but...thats just a thought. I'd have to audition the quilting, thats for sure. If you don't have EQ or something where you can do that....get some of those plastic sheet protectors and a dry erase pen...lay it down on the quilt and doodle away....

In my avatar quilt, my quilter did McTavish(sp?)quilting all around the points of the NY Beauty blocks. It looks awesome!

sandpat 04-27-2010 05:46 AM

Thats kind of what I was thinking...something to make the NY blocks pop out...

creatquilt 04-28-2010 12:50 PM

What did you have quilted in the points of the stars? Was the Matavishing around each star?

quiltingnonie 04-28-2010 05:22 PM

Mostly just lines in the points, but in the centers she quilted circles, and various other designs. On the salmon (at the bottom of the quilt) she did clamshells to look like fish scales.
This quilt was heavily quilted, and I worked with my quilter discussing the quilting block by block. It TRULY made the quilt!

It really is a beauty!

I need to take a class on paper piecing. I have had people tell me how to do it but I cannot wrap my mind around it. I think I need to work while some one tell my hands what to do. It is a beautiful quilt. Guess I will plan on doing it when I grow up.:)

The gal who made the quilt is a freshman in high school, can you believe it!!
