Juki 2000 vs Juki 2010
 

So I'm pretty sold on the Juki 2000, it's looks like a great machine for a great price, the reviews on here and on Amazon are very good, I testdrove the 2010 and it's replacement the 2200 Mini which my dealer said is the exact same thing as the 2010 just rebranded as a mini LA. (The 2000 and the 2010 are officially discontinued per both my local dealers.) I don't care one iota about speed control but my sweet hubby is questioning if I need to get the extra tensioner on the 2010, anyone have any thoughts? The 2000 is 575 on Amazon, the 2010 and the 2200 Mini are 900 at my dealers. Thanks for your help!! I just want to get opinions on if the extra tensioner is worth the 400 price difference.

I've never tried the 2000, but I've had the 2010 for a few years and love it! I use the speed control all the time. Faster for piecing, slower for FMQ. I'm surprised anyone is still selling the 2000. I thought that was discontinued 1-2 years ago. I have a few machines, and the Juki is my go to machine. I bought it sight unseen and it's been awesome since day 1. I never have to mess with the tension, it's not fussy about thread brands.

I have the 2000. Bought it 2 yrs ago. I didn't feel the speed control was worth the difference in cost, at least to me. I have it on another machine and rarely use it. It's a great machine, have no regrets!

Austinite, you know that I've only had my 2000 for about 10 days, and I've never driven the 2010. I'm also new to quilting and sewing so what do I know. That said, I'll say that I was a little worried that the 2000 machine, without speed regulator, would be too fast and/or too hard for me to control. I needn't have worried. I am in the middle of piecing a quilt top and find that the speed of the 2000 is very precise, consistent, and easy to control. I really love sewing with it -- feels so solid and capable of anything. I sewed a sample sandwich and it was totally fun and looked great. I know zip about the extra tensioner, but so far I have no complaints or concerns about the 2000's tensioner or anything else.

I have a 2010 and totally love it. However, I tend to thump along with the walking foot, rather deliberately, so the speed controller hasn't been super important. Maybe the extra tensioner is important at higher speeds? Given what a lot of good machines cost, the $300 difference between the 2000 and 2010 seems rather small. You might be glad of the tensioner later, especially if you're more accomplished than me. :)
