Juki TL-2010 compared to Juki TL-2020 Platinum and using monofilament thread on eithe

Considering a purchase of one of these. Can't seem to find a comparison anywhere, other than a comment that the walking foot on the TL-2020 was better. I know you get the fancy platinum coating, it's supposedly limited edition and you get two more feet. Has anyone used different thread types, e.g. monofilament on either of these machines?

I would skip the 2020, it's virtually identical to my 2010 except for the color. I love my 2010, it's not picky about thread and it runs beautifully, the light on it sucks so I have magnetic LED lights on food cans that I can move around to where I need light and the walking foot sucks so I use a Janome high shank walking foot.
If you're on a budget or you don't care about speed control, look at the Juki 2000, it's identical to the 2010 except no speed control and the price drops from roughly $1k on Amazon to $700ish. High shank feet aren't that expensive to buy on their own and you can also get an adapter to be able to use low shank feet on the Juki, I have one it was $4.

another straight stitch only machine that many people love is the Brother 1500

One other feature on the Juki 2020 is the attachment plate. If you want to screw an attachment onto the needle plate, sometimes the hole wears out. So they've made a replaceable plate -- just in case you do production at home and might wear out the hole. It does come with two cases of presser feet and attachments, which aren't even listed on the Juki website.

What about the Juki TL-18QVP, which appears to be the same machine as the TL-2020 but offers a "hover" mode on the presser foot?

I don't think it's a "hover" feature. It's more that you can raise the foot a little higher, to get thicker fabrics under it. It's the "Haruka." It also has the replaceable attachment plate.
