Oh I am sooo irritated. get this. I am not allowed to bring in a very small needle to sew with to the jury pool. But yet I can bring in large plastic crochet needles. What the bleep is that about? how is a small needle for hand sewing going to hurt someone anymore than plastic crochet needles? That is just beyond ridiculous. I just want to spit fire I am so mad. this is completely stupid. I mean come on now. what is more of a weapon? a little teeny tiny needle or a large plastic crochet needle? I plan on taking one needle and a pair of nail clippers with me to see if the lady really knew what she was talking about. she didn't seem to sound sure of herself on the phone when I asked. the worst thing that could happen is I am out of a needle and a pair of nail clippers. I have a lovely quilt that just needs to have the binding sewn on and it will be ready to give away. I have to iron and attach the binding on the front still but that will only take one night to do that. I was hoping while I was sitting there for hours on end to get the binding on and be productive. but will bring a few books also so that I can take a break from sewing, or if not allowed to sew I can have some reading to do. I feel a little better now. sorry for the rant but needed to get it off my chest.

When I had my first jury duty a few years ago I had a big cross stitch pattern to finish. However I didnt attempt to take it in. My home town will make you walk through a metal detector and put your bag through to xray it. I was bored out of my mind all day long.

That is just ludicrous! I was given sideways looks when I brought a plastic crochet hook. People wanted to know "how I did that". I said, I put it in the bottom fold of my purse so it looked like a stay in the purse or like a part of the purse. Plastic hooks can certainly do damage and are made not to break easily, so why not a sewing needle. Will be interesting to see if your experiment works. Keep us posted.

Seems to me a sewing needle is no different than a broach pin and they certainly allow those. If I were you I would wear a broach pin that day and just slide the needle in right next to it on your clothes. I really don't think it will set off the metal detector nor do I think it isn't allowed. I think you are right that the person you spoke to on the phone just didn't know.

Well, that's just plain silly. Not that you would be forbidden to bring a sewing needle into a courthouse in this day and age, but that you would get "sooo irritated" about it. :roll: The main difference I can think of between a pointed metal needle and a plastic crochet hook is the fact that the needle can be coated with any number of toxic agents and used to poke them into another person. Reason enough to ban sharps of any kind from courthouses in my opinion. Would you consider it a stupid rule if you worked in the courthouse?

i alway snuck in nail clippers, and on planes too, these people should wake up, give us a corner of our own, and mayvbe they'll leran somethig.
never had a prob w/needles. geta magnetized one and put on nail clipper and put keys on the nail clipper as a keychain

I am not irritated about not being allowed the needle, just that they would allow a crochet needle and not a sewing needle. And yes, I would consider it a stupid rule to have if I worked in a courthouse. I think that workers should also be allowed to carry guns into the courthouse. as well as the everyday jurrer. Well as long as they have a permit for carrying. kinda like a conceal and carry permit. I think that if more people had guns in their homes there would be less crime. because as more than one criminal has said, the look for a house that is easy to get into. why face a dog and gun and alarm system when the one next door has none of those things.
