What a wonderful way to honor your friend and even more special because the fabric came from her. Bet you'll feel extra close to her when you're snuggled under it.

This quilt top has a story that I'd like to share. My friend, Vicki (who had moved to Ohio) was an avid new quilter. About 2 years ago, she sent me a BIG boxes of fabrics, FQs and some precut 2" , 4" and 6.5" blocks, separated into plastic containers. She had cut a lot of blocks knowing that I can't use a rotary cutter (can't get leverage as I'm paraplegic). I thanked her for her generosity and thought she had decided not to open her online shop. She told me she thought I could use some of it for charity quilts. Within two month, she died from inoperatable cancer. She didn't tell me until close to the end.

This is a tribute to her using almost all of the 2" blocks she cut. So it is named, Vicki's Many Trips Around The World.

What a wonderful blessing!

I'm glad you all liked my quilt and thank each of you for your kind, lovely words. Yes, I do miss Vicki very much and will try to emulate her generousity. It has been so therapeutic to sew with her little blocks and think of the good times we shared.

Your friend knew you would appreciate her work and preserve it. What a lovely friend she was and you are... I'm sure you will miss her but will remember her through that lovely quilt you made for her. I, too, am so sorry for your loss...
With kindest regards,

A beautiful quilt. You will always think of your friend and the quilt will give you comfort. I had basically the same thing happen when my cousin died from cancer. I got some of her material and cut 2 squares from each fabric and made a queen sized quilt. I have to get backing and batting and quilt it. I just look at the top and it makes me feel good if I'm down. Enjoy your quilt and fabrics

QuiltingHiker 02-01-2011 06:35 PM

Awesome!!

Karen K. 02-01-2011 06:41 PM

What a wonderful remembrance to your friend. I am sure she is looking down from heaven and saying "Well done, friend." I do not know where you live but I am also thinking your friend is glad she is not "down on earth" in this horrible storm we are in tonight.

Terry, I'm sure Vicki is smiling down on you and admiring your creativeness and love that you put into her tribute quilt. I've lost a best friend to cancer also so I know the feelings you're experiencing. You'll be blessed with wonderful things and great memories of Vicki and you'll know she's with you each time you wrap youself up in this quilt.
