Peace

There is altogether too much ruckus in my life. And I discovered a long time ago that if I sew or bake I get peace and very quiet footsteps tiptoeing by to find out what's in progress and if there is anything for the tiptoe-er.

The latest ruckus is a broken up ankle and foot thanks to an uneven entrance to a quilt shop (any other kind?) in St. A. What a mess - orthopedics guy first thing Monday am and painkillers now. BUT I am being waited on hand and foot (sorry!) AND my grandmothers Singer Slant-O-Matic 403 Special has a knee controller. YESSSSS! All is not lost!

Clumsy

I can't quilt without

1. Chocolate by my side, when I'm taking short breaks.
2. My water or other cold drink
3. Background noise, I have my TV on and although I mainly listen, I can't seem to do anything in absolute quiet.
4. My furry friend TJ the cat, who needs to be curled up on the bed to keep me company (my sewing area is in my bedroom).
5. My rotary cutter and various size rulers.

linda faye 08-01-2014 11:45 AM

My headphones/music. Music on speakers is just not the same. And I will admit, if you don't tell anyone, that when no one else is home, I belt it out at the top of my lungs. When I hear songs now, it always takes me back to which quilt I was working on when I was into that song.

The other thing is my utility apron. I keep my scissors, the small ends of the red snappers, my ipod and a few other odds and ends in the pockets. Each item has its own designated pocket so I know right where to reach for it. My sister in law gave it to me for Christmas one year, from etsy, and I've loved it ever since. It clashes with the color scheme in my sewing room, though, so I've been considering making one just for sewing-- especially since I also use it to clean the house. I think it would be nice to have one for each task.
