Our senior quilting group has a quilt sale once a year at our church. We only make children size quilts. The sale is held in the foyer of our church and quilts ae displayed on long folding tables. We price our quilts from $25.00 to
$40.00 We had 47 quilts to sell and sold all of them less 9. We cleared little over $1100.00. Our proceeds goes to buying batting etc for more quilts. Usually our quilts go to local NICU units and to children's hospitals in New Orleans

If I were to enter a quilt in a local church show, I would not expect any prize! I've helped with some not-for-profit church shows and many many guild shows, and I must say the majority of people entering their quilts are NOT in it for any glory nor "prize!" Quilters are just happy to do what they can wherever it will help, and get to quilt to boot!

Hi there,

You might want to consider having a themed quilt show. My guild will be doing a centenniaql quilt theme. Quilts of Valor or quilts for veterans is another choice.

However you set it up will be fine as you are going to be the first. Make sure you take notes.

How are you going to display the quilts: drape them over objects or make pvc stands?

Find others who will make a good supportive team - husbands included for the making of stands, hanging and such. Mke it fun and you will be amazed.

Having somethingh to sell is nice. Maybe your LQS owner would be willing to have al ittle booth.

Have some demos on the history of quilt making or just on quilt making. You might get some junior high youth involved as that is usually when the kids are exposed to sewing/quilting. The home ec teachers could help with this. [Can you tell I was a teacher in a fromer llifetime?]

Most of all ... HAVE FUN!!!

Let us all know how it turns out.

God speed.

I agree. I wish I could talk my priest into something like that. It sounds like a lot of work but a lot of satisfaction too. I say go for it and keep us posted on how its working out.

What we do at our quilt show, is have different demos, one each hour. At each of the demo everyone who shows up, gets a number and at the end of the demo there are prizes.

My sil organized a show in a small town and asked for anyone connected to the town to summit a quilt and had a tag placed on the quilt saying who's it belonged to - who made it - and the connection to the town. They had a donated quilt as a raffle. Maybe you could do that with a quilt from people connected to the church.
