I used to have a dresser with ironwork around the mirror that when I looked at it I thought of how it would look as a hand quilting design in a quilt. Got rid of it though.

I was watching the NOVA series on PBS this week and they had an updated report on Fractals, along with some history. It was a fascinating program (as usual). Now I've known about fractals for decades, but all of a sudden I wondered if I could somehow make a quilt with fractal patterns? Somehow I can't get my mind around that one....

Anyone heard of a fractal quilt pattern?

Wow, I just googled 'fractal quilts'---the result is amazing!

I got at least three quilt patterns - two from tile floors and one from a houndstooth check sweater. This is one of DH's tiny piece quilts.

I saw that program too. I googled it and this what I got...

It's the google page listing the patterns

Some of them remind me of crop circles

I think I saw a quilting program, maybe Simply Quilts, where that very subject was discused as related to quilting. I think the guest was a lady who did Kalidoscope quilts. I think.

I don't dream of quilts, yet anyway, but I think I saw a lady at Walmart last week that does. She had on a pair of pants made of about 4" squares...I'm sure I stared!

I also watched that program and those pictures were beautiful and set me a wondering also.

I bet one could make Fractals by doing thread art quilting upon a plain background fabric. Say...black fabric with off white thread and free motion quilting lightning streaks. Humm-m-m-m-m, think I will try that one day!

Annz 12-18-2010 09:04 PM

yea sometimes but too busy to think of quilts all the time. What I always think of is shapes I could use as templets for quilts. I have a whole box of shapes from all kinds of odd sources.

I am not bothered by insanity, I enjoy every minute of it. especially when it comes to my sewing

sylvia77 12-19-2010 05:08 PM

Yes, I've heard of fractuals. Jinny Beyer has one in her free patterns.

natalieg 12-19-2010 05:13 PM

I see quilts in the tiles on floors and patterns on just about everything!

auntiehenno 12-19-2010 05:58 PM

Ditto. Even when I have been having MRI's.I could make a quilt with the wrinkled pattern on my arms.--HA

I notice floor patterns, especially in government buildings. Forget what the news announcer or actor is saying, I'm thinking ... that would make a really beautiful quilt.

I agree, every where I look I see a quilt but I cannot always draw it in my note book(bad memory). I use the book to make sure I do not forget anything. It is surprising how our minds think when we see some sort of design where ever we go. Merry Christmas All.

I wonder if Google is wondering why so many people are googling fractal galleries....? He he he. I love it!
