Just wondering about this combination
 

I really like the 1930's prints as they are very sweet. I'm wondering if calico prints are considered 30 prints or are they different? I have some calico prints that were given to me awhile ago and am just not sure about combining these prints together. It's for a baby quilt....what do you think?

I view calico prints as classics that blend in with just about anything other than a really modern design. I say if that is your style and you like them, go for it! It is your creation.

Calicoes I believe are a bit different but I use them anyway especially if they have that soft color that most of my reproductions have.

I think as long as the colors are close in shade and scale they will work. You could always do a sample block to see how they look together.

calicoes would look sweet in a baby item! -- calicoes erupted in the mid-late 60's and were still available as calicoes in the early 70's, fewer and less in popularity in the 80's, and the 90's not so much. There is a multitude of fabric on ebay, etc, that is referred to as calico but IS NOT. As far as i know, calico refers to fabric that has minute flower/flower heads and vines/leaves that are ~~.25 of an inch or less apart and allows VERY little space between the motifs. it looks very crowded, this is how they are recognized. Although, today, who knows, the definition may have changed.

I think that the calico fabrics are a good "solid" to use with the feedsack or thirties fabrics. In my own opinion, that is.

To me the important thing would be the color, and how well it goes with the 1930's prints, no matter the print.
