Has anyone made this quilt? I've made many pieces and parts (too fun!) but sewing them all together is difficult at best (for me anyway) Does anyone have some hints for sewing the curved pieces together accurately? Thanks!

Some people pin to where the pieces look like porcupines, other's use three pins... ME? I have to hand sew them LMBO
Go to YouTube and search sewing curves tutorials...try a few methods on scraps and see what works best for you :D:D:D

Haven't done CDM, but I'm working on Indian Orange Peel as we speak! I love her stuff!!

I bought a Curve Master sewing foot. At first I felt I wasted my money but after practice it works great to sew curves.

i made the quilt as a wedding gift for friends.

i 2nd the curve master foot. i'm made 3 inch new york beauties with it and they can out great.

Tell me more...curvemaster? What is it? do they make them for berninas?

its a clear foot for the sewing machine thats a cross between FM and not - it just kinda touches the feed dogs and allows you to curve the 2 pieces together.

it comes with universal attachments so i think it fits every maker now.

I am working on Indian Orange Peel too. I have a similar question after sewing the arcs to the center block about every which way -- my question is which way works best -- leave the paper in or take it off the unit before joining units. I am about to start the border piecing...

I like to remove the paper--especially if i'm working on the curved sections. You just have to be careful that you don't stretch the fabric.

Same for the border?

Yes,IMHO, same for the border because if you don't remove the paper, you end up with a bunch of layers of fabric and paper, and that can distort the nice clean lines you have been working so hard to maintain! Also, it is more difficult to remove the paper when there are several layers.

Thank you! I will take the advice to iron well AND starch before removing the paper.

My teacher said to leave the edges of the blocks slightly undone on the border to inset the border (and to work the last arcs in with the border). Did you need to do this?

BERNINA users note: ALL Berninas will accept the Curve Master. A special metal Bernina shank adapter is required. You would have this if you have ever used a generic, or non-Bernina foot on your machine, or if you have the Bernina ruffler attachment. If you need one, it is available on the Just Curves website or from your Bernina dealer.

I have one and it works. Worth the money since you can use your use singer low shank feet with the adapter.

Take it off or it will be almost impossible to get off later.

Okay. It's official. I'm ordering a curve master foot. I love piecing curved things and that sounds like it will be much nicer :)
I'm so glad I read this thread!!

Try some practice pieces first. Get some scraps and take some time to make some practice blocks. It will be well worth your time. After you're comfortable move to the quilt. Take your time. Slow the machine motor if you can. Remember, this is a very busy quilt and if some seams aren't perfect they will not show unless you let one of those quilting police near it after it is complete! Don't let them near it! I'm doing an orange peel right now and you should try it after the CDM is finished. They are so much fun!
