Hi, all you wonderful quilters. I hope you can help me with
my concern. I have a twin brother on dialysis, and I made
him a quilt. He requested red, white and blue as he served
in the military 20 years. Now the quilt is finished, and I am ready to wash it in cold water before I take it to him. Idid the binding in red and bordered it in dark blue. I am
very concerned that the color will bleed on the white blocks.
The blocks are also red and blue with the white. It being patriotic colors, has anyone else had trouble with bleeding of these colors? ,

Thank you Kimmie. My wonderful friend made the wall quilt for me as a Christmas present. I love it, too.

use a color catcher....cold water - maybe add vinegar to the rinse water to set the color for future washes

I would definetly use a color catcher. Red & blue are both bad at bleeding.

I would use several color catchers/

I made a baby quilt for a gift with batics. I tested all the fabric but didn't prewash. When the quilt was finished and it was time to wash it, I started to worry. Some of the colors were quite intense and there was white in the background. The color catchers worked beautifully, and I think I will include a box with the gift. The color catchers came out a kinda gray color. The white is bright white. Should I wash it again with Retayne?
