Does anyone have any knowledge about the 1948 kenmores. Model 117 959? Just got a call. She's selling her mothers old machine with maple cabinet for 180.00. She says it's in mint condition. Isn't that alot for a kenmore?? Or should I wait and get a diff brand?

I don't collect old machines, but that sounds like a lot. Many of the people here have gotten machines this age for around $50 or less through Craigs List etc. You can always 'gently' make an offer of less.
I have about 8 old kenmore and singers, and i have not paid more than $5. for any of them, these are all portables tho, not in cabinets. Kenmores were great machines.
Wow 5.00 in mint condition? I want something inside a cabinet. She said both the machine and cabInet were mint. I got this off of craigslist.
My suggestion would be to go look at it and see if you like it. As far as price, just depends on what one is willing to pay. My mom had a Kenmore she bought new in 1952. What a workhorse. Good luck what ever you decide.

She is asking way to much.
How much is it worth?
I think that to high I see singer feather weights for that or less
How much is it worth to you is the question. But, if it were me I'd offer $30 if it's a mint machine and cabinet and keep looking if she doesn't take it. There are a ton of older machines on the market.
Ok I doubt she go that low. I will keep looking
are you going to buy it???
not for 180.
I think thats way too high too. I just passed on a beautiful white in a great cabnit for 30.00. I couldnt have gotten it in the truck alone and it was raining. I was in great condition though. Keep looking, you'll find something cheaper!
Call the lady and tell her it is too rich for your blood, make an offer and give her your #. She may find that it is not in high demand like the featherweight and you may get it anyway at a reasonable price!
I called her. She thinks 180 is a fair price.
I got an older Kenmore in a cabinet at the Goodwill Outlet store for $10. It runs great! She's asking WAY too much money.
Sounds kinda high....whereas i saw a beautiful 60's model Singer with a huge cabinet and lots, lots, lots of notions, bobbins, patterns, laces, etc for $50. And no i didn't buy it....it wouldn't fit in my car!!
She can keep it!
A featherweight and this machine would not be equal. You would have a mint sewing machine and maple cabinet. If they are truly mint, I would buy it. I haven't seen any $5.00 machines on here and would be very leary if I was told that. Best thing is to go see it and if it is true, I would buy it. I wouldn't want a old looking thing setting in my home, mint condition, yes. You can't really make a good decision without seeing it. Just my opinion.

It sure seems high to me.
