It's not so much that the individual machines are discontinued. They are just no longer using the Kenmore name. Now the machines will have the actual manufacturer name. I think this is true of things like microwaves, washers, dryers, water heaters, refrigerators, etc as well.

The high end computerized Kenmores have every feature the high end Janomes have but at 50% off the price of a dealer. They were only sold online at kenmore.com not Sears website so not many knew about them.

agreed. My guess is another company is producing them cheaper and they're liquidating the Janome/Kenmore stock. Many people are under the impression that Kenmore is a brand that is physically produced at Sears. I'm not sure how that started but people will swear by it. It's common knowledge Sears uses subcontractors and IMHO, they do not have the same quality standards as they used to when that brand meant something.
My first machine was a vintage 50s Kenmore, sturdy as can be----it's still in excellent working condition all these years later....my 'new one' not so much.
