I'm beginning a baby quilt using the blocks in a box pattern. I've made lots of double nine patch and know to press the seam to the darker color and I have seen how that really helps the seams fit into each other. But when the pieces are the same color, how do you know which way to press them? Or should I just do the math and eliminate the extra seams? I'm concerned that would ruin the effect, though. Any help would appreciated! Thanks!

I would eliminate the extra seams. These blocks are 2" finished, 2.5" cut. To replace 3 blocks, it would be 2" x 6" finished, 2.5" x 6.5" cut.

I also would do the math and eliminate the extra seams, but to answer your question about pressing - you have to know where the block is going, and press all blocks in the same row the same direction so that one row nests against the row above and below. The only seams you really need to worry about are those where two colors of pieces are stitched together since pairs of of the same color piece can be turned around to go the direction you want.
