I actually love both King Tut and YLI for fmq'ing. So much depends on the machine. I recently upgraded my Janome 7700 to an 8900, and discovered that I was getting thread blobs on the back if I stopped for even a second (a problem I never had with my 7700). I decided to try using Aurifil in the bobbin, and the thread blobs went away, no eyelashes, etc. The variegated threads are to die for!

King Tut's my favorite too. I order it online from Superior Threads (no affiliation); their service is excellent.

I agree that King Tut thread is wonderful. I've never had problems with the YLI variegated threads. Sulky Blendables is the one that gives me fits when I'm doing FMQ. However its just fine for grid quilting. I finished a 44" square flannel baby quilt with Sulky last night, did a 3" diagonal grid. I quilt using various domestic machines.
I've been machine quilting for over 20 years. My quilting machines are: Berninas 930 & 1031, Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 875. The piecing machines are mostly treadles, I love Aurifil threads for piecing.

I love King Tut....I purchase it from j.hittle.com......their price is 18.99 for 2,000 yrd spool and they only charge $6.99 for shipping, no matter how much you order....if you purchase $100, the shipping is free...but who really cares if the shipping is only $6.70 no matter if you order one item on a hundred.

I get the newsletter from the company that makes King Tut thread. Enjoy, you can get thread and fabric directly from them as well as great instruction pertaining to use of their thread

ALSO, if you go to http://www.superiorthreads.com/shop/...hread-Seminar/, you can get the Free DVD on Threadology. It has wonderful facts about thread, needles and tension. It normally costs $24.95.

Why would you want to use 100% cotton to FMQ?
