I would love to have one. I use to work at a sewing factory and used one daily as well as the one on moms machine when I was learning to sew as a child.

Use very often

I was reluctant to use mine when I bought my Janine last year but I took a class and the instructor said to use it. Now I love it. Keeps my hands free to use with the quilt pieces. Kathy

I have the Jonome 6600 with the knee lifter. I would like it but my leg is too short and my knee doesn't reach the lift. I have to put my foot on a stool which is then too high. It frustrates me.

My machine has one but I don't use it. I think it gets in the way more than it helps.

I love my knee pedal. If you are having trouble getting used to it just remember to keep your hands on the fabric and resist moving them until you create a new habit shouldnt take long. If the pedal doesnt seem to hit you right I cut a piece of a swimming noodle and slipped over the knee part to make it wider and a bit easier to use.

My Janome has one and it's like having a third hand. LOL I use mine all the time. It's very handy when quilting as it actually lifts higher than the regular lever. Just love it!

The Bernina I got 25 years ago had a knee-lift lever and I loved it. My Viking that I have now does not have one and I wish it did.

When I first learned to sew on my mother's machine, the pedal was located inside the sewing cabinet at knee level. To make the machine go, you pushed with your right knee. Now, many years later, when I have my knee lift lever in place, I keep trying to use it as my "gas pedal". So, it's easier for me to just not try to use it at all. Old habits die hard.

Love mine! When I use a machine without one my knee goes crazy.

emlee51 10-16-2011 06:16 AM

Love, love, love mine! Gives me so much more control over my fabric when I can manipulate it with both hands!

I've only used it for one table runner when quilting the other day because I kept having to stop. But I don't really like it probably because when my mom was teaching me how to use her machine, she didn't use it because it bothered her, so I've been sewing for a little over a year without it.

Though I kept accidentally stepping on the pedal while trying to use the knee lever, so I probably won't use it many more times

I use my knee lift lever all of the time. I have a Baby Lock Elizabeth. I don't think I could piece without it, especially when chain piecing.

I've had both (same machine) and was able to control my speed better with my foot.

soozieq2 10-17-2011 07:28 PM

I use the knee lift on my Bernina all the time and use my left foot for the pedal. It took some getting used to because my other machine had a knee-activated pedal.

I like the foot control better

mrs. fitz 10-18-2011 06:31 AM

I didn't for no reason, just didn't. Then I installed it. Love it.

My singer 301 is in a cabinet with a knee lift. It took me a few minutes to reconnect with sewing in high school, but only took minutes to remember. I must say that I really like having both hands free.

Love Love my 301

I think some of the folks posting aren't clear that we're talking about a presser foot lifter activated by a knee control--it doesn't run the sewing machine like knee controls did when I was a kid.

quiltinggranny 10-18-2011 02:18 PM

Thanks for clarifying the use of the knee control. I was just going to mention it when I noticed your post. I LOVE mine!

had my babylock for a few years and never tried it...finally did use it but it was to make a bisquit quilt with 525 squares...boy did my hip hurt. i still use it. it's the best thing for paper piecing you can use 2 hands to hold the fabric.

Yes you're right, that was my original question.

Glad to read that you use yours. :D
