Know this block?

A friend came to my Bee with older quilt blocks from her grandmother or mother. They were all torn apart but when four were placed together, this is the image that showed up on camera. Anyone know it? It has strange piecing of the parts. Thanks for looking.

Interesting block. It has a 3-D effect. I wonder what it looks like with different color combinations. I don't know a name for it.

Its similar to one called "yankee puzzle".

Looks something like 'flyfoot'.

Neither of those has the box at each intersection of the star - it looks like the start/center is an 8 point star made of diamonds. And lots of y-seams.

It could be a "broken star" though that can refer to a variety of types of quilts/blocks.

Looks like a 3-D pinwheel block that has other pieces added to it to finish the quilt square.

Yes, very similar to "flyfoot"

It is very similar to flyfoot. The thing that is so odd about it is all the diamonds in it. The pink and blue are diamonds and the black with dots are diamonds. Lots of y seams. The pattern didn't emerge until the photograph. Before that it really looked odd. I am guessing it's one of those out of the paper back in the day. Wherever it came from, her relative liked it. There were several like these and there were others in other colorways. But this one was ripped in two.

Here is a link to your previous posting on this, not sure if you checked it out as well. http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...ml#post6626121
