Those of you making quilts for Japan, are you labeling yours? If so, would you put your first name, date, and your state, USA? I've the inclination to write "sewn with prayers by.....", but I've read the Japanese aren't, as a whole, people of faith. That type of thing on the label might not be appropriate. Any ideas? Thanks.

Just because they may not share "our" faith, doesn't mean they don't appreciate our prayers.

I would put on the label, what my heart, or faith tells me.

There are a lot of Japanese who are Christians but even those who aren't appreciate the thought and prayers. I have family in japan some of faith and some not and the both appreciate the thoughts!!

Thanks. I started suggesting this to my mother, who I was surprised snapped "Don't even try." This is so out of character for her that I didn't talk with her anymore about it. I tried to get the idea out of my head, but I kept coming back to it. Because of Mom's response, I was sheepish asking you what you thought. It's so nice to hear your supportive opinions.

If she's older, she may be remembering times when we were at war with Japan; her response might be based on the sentiments of a lot of elderly folks.

This is your chance to show just how far we've come! I agree with previous responses - even if they don't share the same faith, I think they will appreciate knowing that this is important enough to you to include your faith.

Don't know where you'd hear that. I spent 18 months in Japan back eon years ago and they are people of faith. There are Buddiasm, Christians, Shinto and other religions.

They all believe in some form of religion even if it isn't what we may practice.

We all have our own way of getting to God.

Even if some were not it does not mean they would not appreciate our prayers.

Put whatever label you feel comfortable to put on. That label alone will be a witness to them that God is helping them out even if it is in a quilt made for them.

I searched online to determine their belief, or lack there of, in a higher being. It said generally, Japanese people affiliate themselves with a religion for ceremonial events, but if asked about their personal belief in God (or any higher being), most say they aren't believers. (Something like 80%.) I found similar info on a couple sites and then moved on to do more quilts....Sorry if I'm placing stock in information that isn't factual. I knew you all could steer me in the right direction. Thanks again!
